gmail pinch zoom gone in new 2.2 OS upgrade/update

I went and got the new 2.2 and my wife is still currently with the one before that.

Her's still has pinch zoom ability within a gmail message, and, mine has now lost that functionality with the upgrade in Android OS. I even forced a gmail update (via the market) to new(er) version of GMAIL with no luck.

Has that zoom function been taken out with the new addition of text size(s), and, if not, is it easy to get back the pinch-zoom without some type of hard-reset (a lot of forum comments talk about hard-resetting)?

If a hard-reset is necessary, what data needs to be backed up and which does not, and, once reset, what are the proper steps to get the phone exactly back to the way it was prior to the hard-reset?

The pinch zoom feature was not affected by the software upgrade sent to your phone. A factory reset will definitely be a troubleshooting step that would resolve your concerns; however, I would recommend to do a soft reset first as this type of reset does not delete any data from your phone. Please note that a Hard Reset will remove all data including the Google account, system data, application data, application settings, and downloaded applications.

I apologize, but, definitely not true. Her phone is exactly the same as mine, minus the Android OS upgrade (as mine was before doing it), and, she has pinch-zoom in and out in the GMAIL app'.

Here is another user complaining about the exact same issue in exactly the same manner.

I almost have to refuse to do a hard-reset as I do not believe I won't lose "something". I am pretty savy as well as I work in IT as a software programmer, so, not normally adverse into diving deep into a problem such as this.

Is there any contact where someone "live" has an unbelievable amount of knowledge on how to access this issue via an identical VZW, Samsung Fascinate running 2.2 and the same version of GMAIL which I am to prove or disprove this? Thanks!

I don't have a vast store of knowledge - but I have the same problem. I had pinch to zoom in email and lost it when upgrading to 2.2. I hate having to get out my glasses to read email text, so this diminishes the usability of the email function by a lot!

I don't normally use that feature, so I am not sure about previously working, but I just tried my 2.2 Fascinate, and it does not work on mine either.

There is a new option in SETTINGS under GMAIL.

Open GMAIL, hit the bottom left menu-icon (next to the home/house), hit the MORE option/down-arrow, and then hit SETTINGS.

There is a "Message text size" now available and you have: Tiny, Small, Normal, Large and Huge.

I'd still like pinch-zoom on top of this, and, with this option, I think why they "may have" eliminated the pinch-zoom.

I hate having to whip with my finger to scroll all over the email (when they are formatted large in size by the sender).

In the above instructions, instead of hitting SETTINGS, if you hit ABOUT. If you are not running GMAIL 2.3.4.1, you may need to upgrade that (not sure which version I did or did not get as part of Android 2.2). I did not know this, but, you can force to an even newer version of GMAIL through the MARKET (even though it is part of the OS release and not in your manually downloaded Market apps). I was hoping that incremental update on just the mail-portion would have cured it - not yet.
