For some reason google voice switched to vz voice mail. I can't get it switched back to google vm. I tried reinstalling google, and resetting/toggling between "my carrier" and "google voice". Any thoughts?
I'd like to help you use the app you prefer, Sonicshaman! It sounds like the Verizon voicemail may have gotten set as default. Please go to Settings>Applications>Application Manager. From there, find Google Voice, and click "clear defaults." Do the same with the Verizon voicemail application. From there, power your device off and back on, and test again. You may then be provided the option to use Google Voice. Keep us posted!
