Have you checked the Notification settings in your text messages? You can un check vibrate and select a ringtone you want.
check your volume levels too, alerts have a diff setting from ringtones
i use the audio manager widget that came with the phone

I would like to add to the information listed. I would recommend trying to delete the tones and re-download them from those applications. They may have been removed from the developer or changed causing them not to work. You may need a file explorer applications from the Market to locate the files in the SD and delete them.
