Hi tangofoxtrot5,

Let's look into this! Are you having issues with a verizon.net email account? If not, please advise. Additionally when did the problem begin? Have you tried to remove and re-add the email account?

I am using a Verizon email account. The repeating emails started about 10 days ago right after I got a new phone the Galaxy Note 3. I did not have this problem with the razor phone. I did remove the email account and reinstalled it.

Thanks for clarifying tangofoxtrot5!

Let's try changing the "Incoming settings" to "Delete email from server" "When I delete from Inbox" http://vz.to/1huoHgT.  Retest and let me know how this works out for you.  Thanks!

Hi tangofoxtrot5!
I want you to get your emails in a quick fashion, and the ones you delete....well, they should remain deleted. Your device has settings that allow you to review deleted items in case they were deleted on accident. However, with the Android email app, under the Incoming Settings, you can choose to delete email from server "When I delete from Inbox." Please check this setting and keep us posted!

Hi abjvs,

Let's see what's causing the problem! Which specific email account are you having trouble with? Please clarify, are you receiving duplicate email as well? Have you attempted to remove and re-add your email account? I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Let me start by saying that the problem has stopped all by itself suddenly.   There were no duplicate email's. Erased and deleted email's would just return after a day or up to two weeks later.

Solving POP3 multiple email receiving issue.

First… I spoke with Verizon Tech support today and found the following:  The web site (Verizon.net) email server may have issues with the flag for read messages being set.  I deleted all old messages from the web site and behold… no more issues with repeated messages being sent to my phone.

Below are the conditions I have set on my phone in the advanced tab.

  • Incoming server (POP3): 995
  • Outgoing server(SMTP): 465
  • Type of encrypted connection: SSL
  • Leave copy of message on server: Choose your selection.
  • Delete email from server: Never

Hope this helps…

I'm pretty sure it's an email bug. Having mail NOT be deleted from the server when retrieved is a perfectly valid setting. People who retrieve mail for the same account to a desktop will want to have this set so they get their mail on their PC.

A compliant program should keep track of the messages it has downloaded and not download them again.

Verizon, please fix this bug.

You are correct… It is a bug!  I believe the not read flag setting in the web mail portal is the culprit.  Just for note… I have a note 2 that is not affected.  What I do as a short term solution is to make sure my home systems are updated prior to web mail deletion.

No, I don't think it's the portal. My email is hosted with GoDaddy. The bug appears to be in the phone.
