unable to receive standard text messages?

Just transferred from another provider and activated GS5 this a.m.  I am unable to receive regular text mgs via the standard Messages app.  I am getting Verizon notifications via txt msg with no problem.  Am I missing a setup step? Thanks in advance.

if you're using the verizon app switch to the default messaging app.
