With the issues being reported by S4 users upon receiving the 4.3 update, are you sure you want it?
I've also heard the end of the month.
November 22nd from reported sites like droid-life blog and gottabemobile. With the age old Verizon phrase, "Dates may be subject to change" of course. But the Note 2 and GS3 has been updated in Europe to 4.3. Samsung has been pushing this out fast so last year's models will work with their new smart phone. Sounds like they are on top of Verizon to get this pushed out asap.
Believe it or not, the GS4 on Verizon was the first to get it's update of all the US carriers a couple weeks ago.
any information from anyone?
Verizon is keeping quiet so this probably means we (Verizon Customers) are not going to get the update as that would be giving the customers things we want. No worries, they will claim they are doing "extensive testing" and it is coming soon so they can inflate your phone bill. I have a year until my contract is over and have grown very disappointed in their service. I hope they prove me wrong but I am fearful that I am right. :smileysad:
If you were on another carrier, you would have it...
A big steaming pile of bull shit is what it is. This update obviously isn't as big a deal to Verizon, as it is to their high paying customers. If it was a priority for them whatsoever, they would pull all their resources together to work out the kinks, and get this update out to us like yesterday. All I have to say is I can't wait for my contract to end, because that's when my time with Verizon will end as well.
It's not up to Verizon to fix those kinks. It's up to Samsung... Verizon isn't the hardware company. Sure the device has Verizon branding, but they are not the ones to make the device, or make the updates. The current update has problems for users around the world. People are complaining about it. Right now personally I am glad they are waiting if I don't have to deal with those problems. It's bad enough enough I have to deal with it with my personal phone... I would loathe it on my company phone.
Would have to disagree with you to some extent: the other US carriers HAVE rolled it out (including some prepaids and regionals). There have been few, if any, problems reported here in the US. As we are on different hardware than the rest of the globe, what happens outside the USA is irrelevant to this discussion. I honestly don't know why we don't have it yet. It might be more exacting standards or testing. It might be the desire of VZW to add additional software. I just don't know. What I do know is that we have other carriers to compare this one to and those other carriers have it and we do not. But I think the thing that is really upsetting Verizon Galaxy S3 customers is that the company has elected to say nothing to its customers about why their phones now are not the equal of the other carriers' phones or when, in general terms, they might expect to see the update.. In my mind, that is unconscionable.
Addition software is FUD. Manufacturers get this stuff long before carriers get it into their hands. Just look at ever piece of leaked software from manufacturers. They all have that additional software carriers are supposedly putting in delaying the release of software.
Just because other carriers have the update doesn't mean there is nothing wrong with it. If you go to T-Mobile customer boards you'll see complaints about the update. Failing to install, bricking, WiFi not working, Knox throwing an error, and modified software notification (this voids your warranty).
If I saw this and I ran through this in testing I would delay the release until fixed(I am a software developer). Tech support and replacing devices cost money and resources. Delaying an update doesn't.
Ill put my money on some point next year... Every carrier both contract, and even PREPAID and CSPIRE, have pushed out updates to the s3, now how verizon still has not is beyond me. Looks like they care about one thing and one thing only the $$$ that we all pay monthly to them monthly.
Forget 4.3
Wait for 4.4 (KitKat)
Your happiness is a big deal to us, eszlinger. I don't like to see that you're so unhappy that you're considering leaving us. We're already hard at work every day with Samsung and Google to ensure you get the great software updates you're anxiously awaiting. We want a quality update to be sent and do a lot of testing to make sure you get that great quality you've come to expect with Verizon. Any information about an update to the S3 will be posted at http://vz.to/ON56bT when it becomes available. We're here to help in the meantime too if you have any concerns we can address while you wait. Thank youJenniferH_VZW Please follow us on Twitter @vzwsupport
@ Verizon,
Here you go again with the generic responses. There are multiple departments within Verizon Wireless, that know exactly what stage the update is in, whether its initial testing, final stages of testing or even if its being issued slowly to perform a soak. Now please understand that the 1000+ ( thats underestimating) Galaxy S3 users all deserve to be given some form of information other than something generic. We all would like to know the status of it so we know whether to keep the galaxy gear we got as gifts for birthdays or whether we should return the one we may get for Christmas, or just hold off buying them in general for family, friends and loved ones. If you could please promptly reply to the message with some form of reliable, and specific information regarding a date, or something along those lines you would keep the Galaxy S3 portion of you customers happy.
Thank You
Thank you for the reply Jennifer. Communication is golden in these frustrating situations, so I can appreciate that you at least gave the effort to compose a friendly response to my rather bitter message.
All those different departments might not be able to reveal company confidential information to even employees in another department.
I must say how frustrating the lack of information is.
I have 2 GS3's, one is an AT&T (4.3) and one is a VZW (4.1.2).
Does this drastic version difference make sense to anyone?
Someone mentioned in this thread to not worry about 4.3 and wait for 4.4. I don't have time to wait 2 years to get 4.4!
I'll be getting a new phone long before that (which is exactly what VZW wants.) Upgrades motivated by lack of updates.
If they expect me to stay with them by doing this kind of "motivating" I think they may have a huge surprise coming.
My AT&T phone (company issued) works better at work, has a newer version of the OS, and is updated BEFORE my personal VZW phone. I'm leaning heavily towards migrating my personal phone to brand A when my contract is up (4 LINES VERIZON!) because you treat us so poorly. I get no concrete info from you about which phones will get what updates - no "expected to arrive about" info and it's getting old. Very OLD.
I realize you can't give out info that the bigwigs don't allow you to give out. But it's this whole thing of being the absolute last to receive an update, no eta, no useful info in any way, shape or form that is making everyone dislike VZW.
<END OF RANT>
Verizon doesn't care if they update devices or not. In all seriousness... No matter what version you have, and no matter what device you have you will be paying the same per month. The person on the original droid pays the same as the guy who has the Galaxy S4.
Manufacturers on the other hand would rather you keep buying, because they only make money off the sale of devices...
Also NO carrier will be able to give out an ETA. If something happens people treat them like promises, and cry and complain even if they found something wrong. Like I mentioned before T-Mobile forums are riddled with problems for a lot of users. A lot of them wished the update didn't come at all. If these things popped up during testing and Verizon delayed it because of it then that's a GOOD thing for a lot of people. You might not like it, but it is what it is. Carriers are caught in a catch 22.
what can you do on the at&t phone that you can't do on the verizon s3?
go jump to at&t & on your personal phones& probably end up coming back to verizon when their support/coverage isn't up to your wishes/desires.
Wait for 4.4 (KitKat)???
Seriously? That would be years down the line IF it ever happened!
I just want what I was told on Friday (12/13/13) that the update had already started and now it's 5 days later and NOTHING!
Very SAD Verizon!!
I am kinda regreding leaving att for verizon. I thought since verizon should be a better company I would get updates faster and more support. I am wrong. The s3 for att got the 4.3 my friends with tmo also got 4.3 and nexus for tmo got kit kat. I shouldn't of keft in aug and stayed with att. Got 1.5 years left of being fooled and lied too. Shoh ldve did my research before making the switch. When will we get the 4.3 update for the gs3??
i talked to vz tech today they said its been released as of today the build number is i535VRUCML1, said its going out in batches, she said to keep checking the software updater thru settings throughout the day, Weird thing is ive check the support docs on my vzerizon and it still says MF1, as it does on sammobile, kies.and verizon software update/recovery tool
Yes, KitKat. Forget 4.1, 4.2 and 4.3. Go straight to 4.4. Unless your phone doesn't have a dual core processor or better, unless your phone has less than 512 MB of Ram. 1 GB of Ram or more is better. Then there's no technical reason for VZW denying that their customer's phone be automatically updated/upgraded to 4.4.

it just pushed through now.
Just got the 4.3 update. Everyone on XDA is starting to get it too. Start checking on your phone.
Slightly off... the Galaxy S3 WILL get the 4.3 update...
