why dose verizon make update that mess up the phone

i have had the GS3 for about a year now and this is the first phone i have loved. but now verizon make this update and my phone is usless.

i could go all day with a full charge now i have to charge my phone around noon to make it through the day. one big reason i have seen is the limit background prosses is gone. so my ram now says there is 39 things running in the back ground. also my light flashes everytime i get a call. i have looked everywhere and there is no way to shut it off. i have been a verizon customer for over 10 years and if verizon cant fix this or give me a erley upgrade i think it is time to take my 2 lines somewhere else.

Verizon cant you just leave a good thing alone and stop messing it up with crappy updates that do nothing but mess the phone up?

Verizon doesn't make the updates. The updates come directly from Samsung. So instead of blaming verizon, you should go to samsung.

I agree with you there! We should give Verizon a does of their own medicine, and lets update our billing information that will mess up their billing department.

But seriously, Verizon doesnt make the updates, if you have that big of an issue with it, I would recommend contacting Samsung. Youve been a customer for 10 years, huh? That is great and all, but every carrier sees the same updates more or less, and the best way to avoid updates, is to not own any electronics.

Absolutely not true. Samsung 'never' releases updates "directly" to their phones. They release updates to the Carriers, in this case Verizon. Then Verizon adds, deletes and modifies features as they see fit, before sending the update out to their customers. Sometimes these changes cause problems ranging from minor to serious. For example the update to JB 4.1.1 in which Verizon caused major problems that necessitated the release of a patch to fix it.

Samsung releases update to Verizon and then Samsung incorporates Verizon's changes into the update. Samsung is making the update here, so it is right to blame Samsung.

You have to be kidding. You really believe that Samsung sends to VZ and then VZ sends it back to Samsung and then Samsung sends it to the end user.?

The OTA updates are sent out to customers by "Verizon". Samsung has NO cell phone network to send out updates on, even if they wanted to. The last people to touch the updates before the customer gets them is Verizon.

I don't care who made the update or who sent out the update. I want it gone and out of my phone so I can have my reliable problem free phone back. this new update is getting on my nerves and going to cost me an arm and a leg from bandwith usage because it would stay connected to the Wifi carrier.

Some of you must be Verizon employees who always say to contact Samsung. As JoeKiv says, the final update comes from Verizon Servers and towers. Samsung would have no way to send you an update. THE UPDATES COME FROM VERIZON, IF YOU CALL SAMSUNG THEY WILL TELL YOU TO CALL VERIZON! Ok, I feel better now.

Verizon doesn't even see code. They tell manufacturers criteria and give apps to manufacturers. Manufacturers do ALL the coding. I already posted how it's done. Motorola has the same time line as HTC as does Sony. I don't see why Samsung would be any different. Verizon is not a software/hardware firm. They are a service provider.

I know they should not push it out until it is ready. some things the updates has done to me that I do not like is makes some of apps that were previously installed before the update crash and reinstalling them Is the only way to fix it and battery life. it was really bad now it is even worse then before. I think Verizon need to make a update to fix this before the end of the month or at least announce when it will come out. this is very ridiculous that they did not make sure that it worked before releasing it.

Can't really blame them for releasing it. How many complaints to carriers about update not being released MONTHS ago. I and many other people said wait for them to fix the bugs. Did these people listen? They called use employees and shills.

As I said before they are in a catch 22. Release the update and they'll be blamed even if they test it or not. Carriers don't even touch the code. They beta test them and that's it.

Ultimately it's the manufacturers job to ensure their code works.

ok I did not know that but someone needs to get this fixed before feb or march. I would love to have it this month. it has caused some very serious and annoying bugs that I would like fixed ASAP. People need to quit complaining about how they do not have the latest update because they need to learn to be patient and wait for all of the bugs to get worked out. they release so quickly with bugs because people complain about not having the latest update on their phone.

Tidbits did post a link that explains the process, and i actually read it. Now after reading it, the first thing that came to my mind is this. How can a company or companies, that has put their operating system let alone the updates through that process, still have a problem with their operating system or with the updates?

Sounds more than fishy to me that an update winds up making the phone worse instead of making it better.

These updates are done by the people that made the phone not by Verizon. I can tell you this updates can be bad at times but also can be a lot better. If I had this phone I might be better able to help you. The one thing that will help with the battery is this and it works on all phones. Turn off your data when you are not on your phone. You will see a drastic change in your phone. The battery will last forever. That is unless you are a phone junkie and need to be notified of every notification in facebook and other apps as you will not get any updates untill you turn your data back on. But turning off data saves your battery as your phone is only using half of its power and the apps will not be constantly communicating to keep you updated. I prefer to check myself for updates and my battery loves me for it :smileyhappy:

That's actually how it's done. It has to go through so many hands and Google and Sony has proved the carrier testing process is shorter than most of the other processes. What ALWAYS takes the longest is licensing/governmental processes. Those could take up to 6 month easily. If a process doesn't pass it goes back to the manufacturer.

Hmmm. Maybe that's why Verizon doesn't have the Nexus 5 and the Nexus tablets in their stores.

I already said that more than a handful of times. Updates still go through carriers in beta testing and nothing more. They do not touch the code at all.
