I am using the Messages App (Samsung, Yellow Background) to send messages. Intermittent delivery when sending. 80% of the time i must turn off wifi to send a message then turn wifi on. Phone is up to date.
some older phones couldn't send messages over wi-fi.
have you ever been able to send a message with wi-fi?
Text messaging has become so common it’s hard to think of life without it, dpdavis54. We want to ensure things are working as they should be. It’s been a couple days since you posted this comment and I see bearone21 has offered some help. Have you solved this issue? Please provide a detailed update.

I have been able to send texts for several months while connected to WiFi. Recently, in the last 2 months, when I type a text and hit send I see a spinning wheel and after about 30 sec I get a notification that my message failed to send. I then choose the option to resend message. This may or may not work.
If I turn off WiFi and then hit resend, the message sends 100% of the time. While sending a message when WiFi is on works 50% of the time.
Issue has not been solved yet. Please see my reply to bearone21.
The issue is intermittent. I don't believe I am attempting to send the message OVER WiFi just when I am CONNECTED to WiFi.
I am not aware of any settings I have changed.
I like being connected to WiFi to save on Data but this issue is a hindrance in my daily tasks.
Over Wi-Fi and with Wi-Fi mean the same thing.
if wi-fi signal is weak, the message goes over the network. is your router up-to-date, relatively new??
i have been able to send messages when connected to WiFi in the past. Now, it only works 1/2 the time.
WiFi signal isn't weak but I am not sure if it is up-to-date. I am using an AT&T Whole-home box for internet at home but at work, I have know idea what ISP is being used. The issue is happening in many different locations.
I have been having the same intermittent problem for 2 months. No changes to anything except updates to apps as they become available. Usually it happens to the first text of the day. Just says Sending... for 30 seconds, then the Failed message with red triangle. If I tap and hit Send again, it goes through right away. Using Messaging app on Moto Maxx Android 4.4.4.
dvguy, this is certainly odd that this only occurs with the first text message of the day. I heavily rely on sending messages as a form of communication; I am sorry to learn that you are having the trouble. How long has this been occurring? At the time this happens what is the Wi-Fi signal look like?
Lauren11thal, thank you for the details you provided; it is very helpful. How long have you been having this trouble? What make and model phone do you have and what messaging application are you using?

Has this been resolved. I am having the same issue. It started around the end of February. I have Galaxy S7 Edge and I am using the stock message app. It is very random when it happens. And it happens on multiple wifi connections. As soon as I turn off my wifi the message with send. Today I was able to send 2 messages when connected to wifi but then any messages after that would not send. Advanced calling is turned on. Data is turned on. This is hard to troubleshoot because it is so random and usually happens when I am on a public wifi. It hasn't happend on my home wifi or work wifi yet. Any help would be appreciated.
I am having the same problem on my Samsung Galaxy S9. (Samsung-sm-g950u). I am at a hotel, and when I connect to their wi-fi for internet browsing, I cannot send texts or make phone calls half the time or more. Phone calls freeze in the calling state wherein no dialing takes place. Texts give me a "failed to send" error message.
If I go to Settings > Connections > Wifi and turn off wifi, I can then make calls. It is most inconvenient and hobbles the phone as no texts can come in or go out while I am calling and vice versa.
I thouight there was a setting to call and send texts over wifi that I was instructed to use by a Verizon agent when I was in my home area (San Diego) where the Verizon signal had dropped to 1/2-1 bar due to some known signal sharing issue with another carrier.
However, I cannot now find this setting to see if it is the cause of the issue. I have restarted my phone several times.
With these two issues, I am considering changing to another carrier and phone despite being a loyal Verizon customer for many years.
I would like to once again have my phone able to use the 4G/3G mobile data network and wi-fi capabilities at the same time without having to change settings repeatedly.
I share your pain! This is happening to me now in September 2019. I have to manually disable wifi to get a text message to successfully send. Phone calls do the same thing. They just hang without dialing until I turn off wifi. Most inconvenient.
We would never want to see you leave and I understand your concern with text and calls not working when on Wi-Fi. Let's work together to get to the bottom of this. When did this start? Does it happen on all Wi-Fi connections? What messaging app are you using?

Same problem - since Sept 4th, when I replaced a DSL router. No texts and no wifi calling...however go next door to mother-in-law, connect to her wifi and it works. This happens on all phones in our house. The routers are the same with the same settings, and same ISP just different versions. The ISP and router manufacturer won't help me. I live where there is no cell service. Please find a fix!
Change the Mac address on your wifi to the other option it's working for me.
i have they same problem with my samsung galaxy s8 fully updated apps and os fails to send over wifi have to disconnect hit resend its been doing this for at least a year now so i bought a new samsung galaxy s20 with 5g same exact problem. verizon went from beingthe best the last 20 years to probably the worst now the last 2 years im so tiredof this service not working. if you the get help report a bug option in the verizon messages app they are completely useless they told me how to disable pops ups like that has anything to do with the problem. i replied multiple other times with screen shots and no reply. think its time to jump to at&t get rid of this trash service.
To clarify, did you only have this issue while connected to Wi-Fi?*Estevan
2022 and this issue still exists. It's awesome.
