I recently switched from Galaxy S3 to S7. Right out of the box it went through a s/w upgrade to Nougat.
I find that if I select "Silent" as the option for sound notification of incoming gmail, it turns off the LED blinking feature as well. Is there some setting I can use to keep the sound to "Silent" yet have the blinking LED notification for new incoming mail in Gmail? I could do this in S3 where I only had a blinking LED notification for all incoming Gmail.
Thank you

Same problem here. I'm guessing it's not a Verizon issue as much as it's an Android Nougat/Gmail app issue. I've posted it to two different Android forums and reported it to Google but have not gotten any response.

Congrats on the new phone. I also rely heavily on LED notifications.
Can you clarify whether other notifications are working or not? Is it just the Gmail?

For me, the problem is limited to the Gmail app. I have read anecdotal reports of the same problem with other apps, but I do not have those apps so I cannot say.
Using the stock Samsung text messaging app as an example, when I set the audible notification to "silent" I still receive the led notification when I receive a text message. However, when I set the Gmail app audible notification to "silent" I do not receive the led notification.

I am turning on the silent mode from within the gmail app. I would say that pretty much all LED notifications go off with the exception of battery being charged or a missed call

Animeshdey, I want to make sure we are on the same page to ensure your concern is addressed. Are you stating that your LED lights do go off even when you place the phone in silent mode within the Gmail app? Do you have the LED indicator set to ON? Settings > Display > LED indicator.

I tried what chanefeld reported. I agree with him. So to repeat his experience - Using the stock Samsung text messaging app as an example, when I set the audible notification to "silent" I still receive the led notification when I receive a text message. However, when I set the Gmail app audible notification to "silent" I do not receive the led notification.

Dear TionnB_VZW:
To answer your question. I have always had the LED indicator set to ON. Settings > Display > LED indicator is ON.

I'm having the same problem and it is super frustrating. I depend on that flashing light to let me know if I have a message waiting for me, and it's much more convenient than having to constantly swipe the notification panel to check. I hope this can be resolved soon.

We want to make your wireless experience a spectacular one, Jlongley. Notifications are crucial and we want to work towards a fix ASAP. I understand you are having the same issue as Animeshdey. Are you noticing the same issue in any other aspect as far as notifications or just for Gmail notifications?

jlongley, notification lights certainly are important and I apologize for the trouble that you are having. Are you noticing this when you have your phone only in silent or vibrate mode?

An update to my original post.
This issue is not just limited to Gmail. I have noticed that with other apps such as K-9 email, Whats-app, I have noticed that if the sound notification is "silent" in any of these individual app settings, it also turns-off LED notification. So far the switch to S7 has been very underwhelming and disappointing.
And, Verizon Team, please do not just respond to these emails with no solutions and request that your emails be tagged as helpful.

I'm pretty sure it's an issue with the Android Nougat update. I've had the S7 since before the update and I was not having any problems before the update. Based on that sequence of events, I'm blaming Android for this one.

I know how important the notifications are to daily life. I consistently have my phone on silent and I can understand how not receiving an LED alert can be hindering. After you did your software update, did you update the software on your email applications as well?

Let's move forward and get your notifications working. Does your LED light work for your other applications or is this just an issue with your text messages. Which messaging app are you using?

animeshdey,
I also have an S7 using Nougat, but my LED notifications still come in. Let's check a different part of your phone to see what has changed. Make sure the in-app settings are not set to Silent first; all of my in-app settings, like Gmail, are set to make a sound and notify only once, for example. After that, please go to Settings > Notifications, and you will see a list of apps on your phone where you can adjust their notification settings here. You can also tap on the Advanced option in the upper right corner to get detailed options for your apps. Adjust those settings as you like, and let us know if your Gmail is shining once more.

You are totally missing the point. The problem is that the led notification does not illuminate when the app notification is set to silent. Visual led notification and audible notification are supposed to be separate and independent notification methods. Turning one of them on or off should not affect the other. But since the Nougat update, when the audible notification is set to silent, for the gmail app, it also defeats the led notification. THAT is the problem. So when you advise to make sure the audible notification is not set to silent, it tells me you do not understand what the problem is. As I said before, I think this is an Android problem and not a Verizon problem.
