You will have to call customer care to change your phone number. Someone will walk you through the process to change your number. Call from another phone besides your verizon phone. It'll be $15 to change your number.
Also you can block the person that is messaging you for free without even changing your phone number. Log into your Verizon account. Go to Verizon Safeguards and select Spam Controls. Enter in the phone number there.

VZW will credit you the $15 telephone number change if you tell them you are getting nuisance calls.
So if I tell them that I am getting texts from a person I don't know, and they won't leave me alone, then they will change it for free??
You can actually now change your phone number online for free at www.verizonwireless.com
You'll need to be logged in as the account owner, but once you're logged in you'll click on the MyServices tab and then click MyPhone. On the left handside of the page you'll see a column that starts with MyPhone Actions. Below that you'll see the link to change your phone number.
Just walk through the steps to select a new number, once it's changed you'll need to dial *228 and select option number 1 to reprogram your phone.
Keep in mind that changing your number will erase your voicemail box. So you'll lose your greeting and any saved messages that you have.
