Messages app crashing at start on iphone

Messages + app is crashing at startup on iPhone (most updated software), no recent update to the app was done or available, was working fine yesterday this morning nothing. If I put phone in airplane mode app will open when I reconnect to network stays open but if I just try to open the app it crashes while trying to connect? Anyone else having this issue??

Exact same issue on iPhone 7 Plus.... app was working fine yesterday (3/21) and as of today it crashes/closes on startup.  I have deleted and re-installed the app from the App Store but it didn't help.

Issue on iPadPro.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled twice.  I turned WiFi off.  I restarted The iPadPro several times.  All to no avail.

Help?

Magic - just checked again a few minutes ago, and mine now works.  Reloading all text history, but it works.

Same problem on IPad Pro and iPhone X. Ok yesterday, crashes today on both devices.

To confirm, is the issue still occurring on your Apple devices? What changes have occurred with the phone? (software update, setting changes, etc.)

Having the same problem on iPhone 7+. Deleted and reinstalled app, rebooted phone, still didn’t fix the issue.

I have the same problem. With Verizon support (tech 2) on the phone, I reset the device, deleted and reinstalled, reset network, and finally reset all on the iPad Air. Nothing has worked.

We want that application to work for you. Is your device connected to Wi-Fi or our cellular data network when you have this issue? Are you having issues with access to any other applications on your device?

So.. it works now. Or at least mine does. I haven’t tried anything new, it just magically started working. You may want to try It again, see if yours works also. Smiley Happy

I'm here to help! Making sure that your messaging app is working as it should is our goal. A few other community members have stated that this issue has started to work again. Is yours working again as well? If not, I just want to gather a few other pieces of information to this puzzle. Does the app crash the minute you try to open it up or does it crash when you are in the app? What model iPhone do you have? Does the regular message app work on your phone & are all other services on your phone working; such as calls & data?

Could be a response from a server was not accounted for nor handled properly in the app software.  Did any of you submit reports (crash reports)?
