I received a text from 1-860-996-2595 that reads "Thank you for your payment! Please accept our special rebate from VZN of $200 coveringwforest.com/?#WR4FMBI"
Is this spam or is it real?

Report it to SPAM (7726) so Verizon can see it. Follow the instructions in the reply to provide the number where it came from. Then you can delete or block it from your phone.
Looks fishy to me. If it had actually come from Verizon Wireless, it would have come from a very different phone number and the abbreviation of Verizon Wireless would have been not how it was done in your example.

If that was a link in the text message, it is sending you to a (non-Verizon) website from Iceland:
https://www.whois.com/whois/coveringwforest.com . Definitely a PHISHING attempt.
I have received this text as well. I don’t believe it’s a real text from Verizon as I have not recently made a payment.
I received a similar text as well right after making a payment. The link I got was:
"temperamentdomoist .com/ ?#fam23fn"
Definitely seems like a phishing attempt, although I have to admit, seeing that I had just made a payment... I almost clicked on it.
Yes, this is definitely spam and not a real text from Verizon. Please be careful not to open any links and forward the suspected spam text message to short code 7726 to get it reported. Thank you! ~Christian
How do you forward such texts? Mine says: "Your latest bill has been paid, please accept your special rebate and gift of $250 from VZN! deepjspoil.com/?#ucJga1N." It comes from ### ### ####. And how would they know I was a Verizon customer? Even a spam call just dials (or in this case texts) random numbers. Very odd. I have blocked the number from my account. It will not let me put the URL into this question.
I cannot find a "forward" feature as I read this text online (not directly on my phone).

You need to open the message conversation and long press the message itself (carefully to avoid opening the link). At the long press, you will get a dialog menu with an option to forward the message. You then send the message to 7726 which spells SPAM on the dialer. You will get a reply from the 7726 asking for the number where the message came from. You will then reply with the phone number that sent it.
I received a text from 7252510940 as the following, “Verizon Free Msg: Latest bill is paid. Thanks, Tyji! Here's a little freebie for you:” the link is this:
b8zds.info/eoS6FjaQ1H
is this phishing?
mrussnow, we are here to assist with the options to forward texts. The steps would depend on the make and model of the device and the messaging app being used. This can be done in the Verizon Messages app by pressing and holding the message or selecting the message, selecting the Center Navigation button on the phone and then select to forward. Does this help?
-David
I received the same message but from a different number. The number I received it from was 1-929-837-1286 and my message was Verizon Fee Msg: September bill is paid. Thanks, Susan! Here's a little something for you: b2zd:info/eoX8Q9kxmt
I got a message that said, " Latest bill processed. Thanks, my name! Here's a little freebie for you:" How did they know my name? It was from a 917 area code.
I received a similar message and forwarded it (without clicking the link) to 7726, then sent 7726 the number it came from, and blocked the sender. This was a tricky one- I hate spam!
+1 (682) 999-5946
Verizon Free Msg: August bill is paid. Thanks, Pauline! Here's a little gift for you: d4scv.info/BK3yU23dM7
We want to make sure that your information is secured. With regard to your concerns the message provided is from Verizon directly and would not be a secured link for the offer. -Jasper
We would love to assist you, please send us a Private Note. *Cecile
I did report this thank you! Mine came from **********. Unfortunately I did click on the link but then did not click on the ok button when it said I'd won a Walmart gc. I changed my Verizon pw.
Why can't verizon block them?
That is good to know. I am glad you reported it. I would recommend changing your passwords and online passwords as well. Do you have any questions for me? -Amber
I received the following text today:
VZN Free Msg: November bill is paid. Thanks, Here's a little gift for you: jrbx10.xyz/C1VcaMf188
I did not click the link.
It was very wise for you not to click the link, Ms_Understood. We work hard to combat spam texts such as these. If you still have the text, would you please forward it to 7726? It will help us greatly in our fight to prevent spam texting. -George
So what do I do if I accidentally clicked on the link? I closed out fast, but now I'm scared. I just deleted a bunch of apps with personal info....
What do I do if I accidentally clicked on the link???
I didn't click on the link either, because it looked bogus and the phone number didn't seem to relate to Verizon. But just now my son got a text from "me" about contributing to a "gift." You (and your customers) have a problem.
Now for a stupid question: How, exactly, do I forward a text to you?
I got a similar text message: VZN Free Msg: December bill is paid. Thanks, Here's a little gift for you: yzut19.xyz/A1MSKnh610. I clicked on the link and it goes to a ligit looking Verizon survey about 4 questions and a "reward" of a free AirPod Pro. Only need to pay shipping and handling. Stopped there and looked up ***** on Verizon community. Reported this one to 7726 and got an acknowledgment and a suggestion of how to block calls / messages from that sender. Thanks for the quick response
My dad fell for this, providing a card #, etc. He told me about it so I talked him into canceling the payment and canceling his card (getting a complete new card #that's not compromised). Well, a few days later he got a couple text messages asking to confirm his address. He deleted those text messages. Another couple days after that, he had "InPod 12" earbuds (you can google these for more info) show up at his door
My take on this. This group is selling $8 headphones by letting the buyer think they are getting Apple Airbuds and that the $8 is shipping & handling. Whether or not this group later uses the card info fraudulently later... Who knows, probably. In the very least, it turned out very sneaky in that they trick people into buying cruddy, cheap, earbuds.
I'm glad o hear that you were able to report this and appreciate it as well, cf4sail16! If there is anything else we can help with, we are always standing by. Have a great one and thanks for being the best part of Verizon Wireless. -Chris
I clicked on the link as well then immediately closed it and erased it from my browser history without clicking anything else. Have you experienced any repercussions since then that you noticed? I'm flipping out because I normally NEVER click links
I received a very similar message this morning. Difference is that it appears to have come from my own phone number. Obviously I didn't write myself this message: "Free Msg: Your bill is paid for March. Thanks, here's a little gift for you: gxrgf44.xyz/ivnP1xlu"
I have sent myself links and photos in the past; I can see those earlier in the text-message thread. How did someone send this phishing message using my own number? The several customer service reps I've chatted with today don't seem to understand how to address this issue.
How do I know that my account is secure? How do I know that some stranger isn't using my phone service? No one seems able or willing to answer that.
I have gotten this message for the last 3 months... I also went on chat with verizon the first time it happened and never got a way to handle this spam. The agent for verizon apparently didnt know if it was real or not, so I just deleted. I am still wondering why the spammer knows I use verizon, did they sell our numbers to an outside vendor of some sort?
I had the same message today offering a free gift that came from my own phone number as well. Verizon how are people using our phone numbers to send us fraud texts? I know this is possible and prevalent with email addresses but not before today have I witnessed this with a phone number and text.
I also have been getting this message repeatedly from different numbers and usually just delete it. But today it came from my own number. What can we do to stop this??!!
yep. I’m here for the same reason as others today. I just got a text message from my own number offering a gift. that is alarming and I feel very unsafe. someone has access to our phone lines.
Yep, same message today. How in the world is this happening and why hasn't Verizon responded?
We definitely understand your concern with receiving spam text messages, especially one coming from your own number. Number spoofing is a tactic that ***** use in an attempt to get around spam blocks that are in place. If you have any additional questions, please meet us in a Private Note.
