What do you mean calls through messages? What message platform are you using? Are you using 2 way voice capabilities of a messaging app? If so which one.
You will find if you are using 2 way voice communication over an app, such as with WhatsApp, that is using a technology called Voice over IP or VOIP. This is data and uses data minutes if not on wifi and not your plan minutes.
