Text messages becomig emails

When the S8 on my account sends a text to the S8 Note, it appears as an email. How do we stop this?

I've seen the help answers suggesting to turn off sync, but we are both on gmail and this doesn't seem to be an option.

This suddenly started happening in the middle of the conversation.

Can you please clarify on what exactly happens? If possible, can you send us a screen shot with what is going on. Also, what troubleshooting steps have you attempted since you started having the issue?
