I paid for a new phone in full and traded in my old phone, which was valued at $100.00, and now I'm getting $2.78/mo off my bill for 36 months. Is this a joke?
Why would anyone accept this?

jgatsby08, benefiting from a trade-in promo is always a good thing and we take advantage of those promos too on my account. The way we've been doing those trade-in credits over the past several years, is you get them monthly to reduce your Device Payment cost. For example, my sister has a phone that she pays $27.00 a month for. She gets a trade-in credit each month of $16.66. She'll continue to get a credit for the full 36-months of her device agreement, as long as the agreement and line remain active. The $16.66 thus over 36-months equals, $600, her promotion.
If you see our Device Deals FAQ, you can confirm that under the Deal & promo credits section, with the question 'How do I receive my promo credits?' https://www.verizon.com/support/device-deals-faqs/
The $2.78 a month you're getting, works out to be $100 after the full 36-months. So you're getting that full trade-in promotion. This applies even when a device has been purchased at full retail price, which is also covered in the FAQ I shared.
I'm glad you're getting credit to help lower its equipment cost each month.
