Blocking Spam Texts

I've recently received multiple repeat text messages from the same number.  The message is nonsensical and an irritant, fortunately to this point the message is not offensive.  Is there someway to block texts or calls from a number that is just wasting my time and resources?

HI Tkbj0729,

We offer a Call and Message Blocking feature that allows you to block, for free, up to five numbers per line on your account. This can be done online. Below I have provided these steps.

  3. Select appropriate MDN fromBlock Details for drop-down (if applicable).

  4. Enter in telephone number.

  5. Check off "Apply these settings to all eligible lines" box (if applicable).

  6. ClickApply button.

We also offer Usage Controls, if you need to block more than 5 numbers per line. This feature is $4.99 per line. I have also listed the steps on how to add Usage Controls online.

  1. Sign In to My Verizon.

  2. From the My Services tab, select Parental Controls.

  3. Click theProfiles tab.

  4. Click +Add to Usage Controls button for the desired line.

  5. Select the check box of the lines you will add the usage controls to.

  6. Click Continue.

  7. Validate the selections.

  8. Select the check box: I have read and accept the above terms and conditions.

  9. Click Continue.

  10. Review the Usage Control selection on the plan.

  11. Click Submit. A message displays that changes will be reflected in 24 hours.

  12. Click Close.

I hope this information is helpful. Have a great day!

Hi!

Yes, VZW offers several options for blocking unwanted text messages from being delivered to your phone. When the messages arrive, do they show who sent them (such as a phone number, email address/web site/, a short 5 to 6 digit number)?

I am also interesting in learning how to block spam messages.  Usually the sender is a 5 digit number.

Since you say that Verizon offers several options for blocking, perhaps you can share the links or specific how to instuructions.

Thanks

Joe

Log into your account and scroll down and click block calls and messages.  Can block up to 5 numbers for free.  My phone has a feature I can set so it only allows numbers through that are in my address book.  Mary

Hi, I was reading your post. I just got a spam message today and it is a 7 digit number but when I went to put the number into the Call and Message blocking feature online, it asks for a 10 digit number. What do I do?

We have heard our customers on this, and we have launched a new program to help with SPAM. Take one (or several) of the SPAM messages and forward it to 7726 (which spells SPAM). This is a new process. Once you forward the message to 7726, you will get a reply text message asking the identity of the SPAM sender (the "From" address in the SPAM message you received). Once received, you will get a "Thank-you" message from the 7726 number. We will investigate on the back end.

The messages you send to and receive from the 7726 number are free of charge. This is a brand new program we are testing, and it just started on 09/1/11. Please make this common practice when receiving SPAM messages. This is not to be confused with alerts though. If you get alerts (something you signed up for), you should reply STOP to the message received before going the whole 7726 route.

I hope this answers your question.

Tried blocking feature, but the number I get spam from is longer than 10 digits( 900080001050) this is annoying and irritating because these spam messages appear at all hours of the day. Message makes no sense....

Oh BREW.  Have seen that before some where but can't remember what it means.  Search the boards and I think you will find out what it is.  Mary

I've also been receiving unwanted texts from a 12-digit number.  No way to block since the online form requires 10-digit.

Can you help?

Thanks

Does this also apply to Verizon Prepaid plans?  If not, how do I block spam text messages if I have a prepaid plan??

If you recently switched from a feature phone to a smartphone, the BREW message is remnant from a notification setting you had on the feature phone. It can be an email notification or a Backup Assistant or something else.

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.
