I still have a Win7 laptop that I still use for various things around my house. It used to connect fine to my Xfinity wireless router, but now that I’ve switched to Verizon‘s 5G home Internet router I can connect to the router, but I don’t have Internet access. I cannot get Internet access via either the wireless connection or the hardwire ethernet connection. However if I connect to my iPhone 15 hotspot, it works fine. Anyone else having this problem ?

Hi JDC91660,
It sounds like your laptop's network settings may need adjustment to work with the Verizon 5G Home Internet router. Since it connects but doesn't get internet, here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:
Step-by-Step Fixes:
- Forget the Wi-Fi Network & Reconnect
- Go to Control Panel → Network and Sharing Center → Manage Wireless Networks
- Delete the Verizon 5G Wi-Fi network.
- Reconnect and enter the password again.
- Check DHCP Settings
- Open Command Prompt (Win + R, type cmd, press Enter).
- Type ipconfig /all and press Enter.
- Look for “DHCP Enabled” under your connection. If it says No, DHCP might be off.
- To enable it:
- Go to Control Panel → Network and Sharing Center → Change Adapter Settings
- Right-click your Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection → Properties
- Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) → Properties
- Ensure Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically are selected.
- Flush DNS & Reset Network Settings
- Open Command Prompt and enter the following commands, pressing Enter after each:
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
ipconfig /flushdns
netsh winsock reset
netsh int ip reset
- Restart your computer after running these commands.
- Update Network Drivers
- Open Device Manager (Win + R, type devmgmt.msc, press Enter).
- Expand Network Adapters, right-click your Wi-Fi/Ethernet adapter, and choose Update Driver Software.
- Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.
- Check Router Settings
- Log in to the Verizon 5G router’s web interface (usually 192.168.1.1).
- Ensure MAC Filtering is OFF (some routers block unknown devices).
- Try changing the Wi-Fi mode (some older devices prefer 2.4GHz networks over 5GHz).
Last Resort: Compatibility Issue?
Since your laptop works fine with an iPhone hotspot but not the Verizon 5G router, there could be a compatibility issue. Some older Wi-Fi adapters struggle with newer encryption methods (e.g., WPA3). You might try setting your Verizon router to use WPA2 instead of WPA3 (usually in the router’s wireless settings).
