LG Cosmos Touch screen lights up by itself

Just sitting on a table with the screen locked the background light comes on.  This obviously wears down the battery.  Any way to prevent this?  I can turn off the screen but it will come back on moments later.

While it frequently happens I can't say that it happens all the time.

Sometimes it will come on bright and then go dim after several seconds but still stay on dim.

The software is up to date.

I updated my phone a few days ago.  So far it appears to be working as expected.

As a result of this unacceptable experience, both LG and Verizon are off my list of vendors.

My LG Cosmos 2 has a similar issue.  The difference is that it's the red Apps opening screen that appears, or the daily scoop.  At first I thought I was pocket dialing, but it happens at night, too.

I disabled/deleted the daily scoop, but after about 2 weeks of reprieve, the daily scoop was back.

I have not had the issue with the battery draining, but it does require me to dismiss or close the app before I can make or even answer a call!

Please, fix this!

Thanks to the community for posting.

I can certainly understand how it can be troubling for you to have your back light come on unwillingly.  In some cases when this happens, it usually is a software issue.  Have you performed a master reset on the device?  Doing a reset usually resolves these phone problems.  If you have not done a reset, here are the instructions to do so:

From the main screen, press MENU
Scroll to Settings & Tools, press OK
Scroll to Phone Settings, press OK
Scroll to Security, press OK
Enter Lock Code displays
Enter the 4 Digit lock code (default lock code last 4 digits of phone number)
Highlight Restore Phone, press OK
Restore Phone - Permanently erases all user data & resets settings to factory default. This phone will need to be reprogrammed.
Highlight Yes and press OK to restore default settings or highlight No and press OK to return to the Security list.

If you have taken this measure then please PM your name and number and I will research your account to see what other options I have for you.  I hope this helps.  Thanks.

You have got to be kidding.  We've been told this is a software defect and that LG is working on a fix.

How about someone providing a staus update if LG is actually working on a fix.  Not to much to ask.

Good day Community!

We have not forgotten about you!

The last update we have from LG (which was approximately 2 weeks ago) tells us that this will be fixed in next MR3 (ZV5). The update plan is not finalized, therefore, I'm not able to give an exact date as to when the software will be updated.

At least we know it is coming.

Thanks again, for your patience in the meantime.

It took LG and Verizon one full year to realize that people were getting unwanted messages and applications on their phones?  It makes you wonder why both companies installed these applications that cannot even be controlled by the user.  There is only one answer: "money"  Please send us this update so that most of us could finally have a normal phone that actually does what it was meant to do in the first place.

BTW, if the reset mentioned above by the V-employee actually worked, most of us would not be in this forum to begin with.  Please give a valid solution if you are going to contribute.

Thank you LG for addressing the issue.  Better late than never.

The lastest update I did just a few days ago (11-21-11) worked! The screen no longer lights up randomly and that 'Daily Scoop' has completely stopped trying update itself.

I updated my phone from the computer & the LG/Verizon software. Now the phone works correctly

How does one get this update to fix the backlight problem?  Mine also lights up during the night and when I wake up the next morning my phone is on the 'browse & download' section.  Why are there so many problems with 'basic phones'??????

I updated my parent phone by plugging it in with the provided USB cable and let it push an install and a few drivers that would have been nice to install during the program it asks you to runs first install. I did my update on vista so installing the drivers may be different on WIndows 7 and further up.

For the most part install the program it asks and the drivers that may show up, unplug and re-plug so everything's recognized. By this point you should see it say "there are updates for this device, do you want them?" and its mostly a 10-12 Minute cakewalk after the updater sees the device and you select to update it.

I so far haven't heard my parents phone speak out of turn, so I'm assuming this fixes most but  still not removing the problem program which as hoped hasn't popped up as far as I know just on delete still shows up.

My phone had been fine since the V5 upgrade but now today I'm getting the infamous "browse and download" screen again. Anyone else getting this?
