I'd love to have this phone as an option for Verizon. Put me down for a "will definitely buy at full price" customer.

Agreed if it has external storage.
The leak photos all show SD and SIM card slots next to each other, so looks like it will

Nice
Naw I want a Verizon Lumia 1020 equivalent! Some rumor pegged a 41 mp lumia for Verizon in October...I think thats just wishful thinking though.
Looks like we might both get our wish.
This looks like a pretty official 1520: http://wmpoweruser.com/verizon-nokia-lumia-1520-leaks/
Verizon: you have my money, the sooner the 1520 gets here the sooner you'll have it!
As for the 1020, there's a few Nokia devices floating through the FCC with Verizon bands, so your 1028 is probably one of them.
AT&T has the 1020... might have to switch... my MPs mean everything to me... I can talk on any phone... But my picture quality means everything
Nope, verizon dropped the ball yet again. 1520 is AT&T, verizon is getting the 929.
Yeah it looks like Verizon is up to its usual trick of taking an awesome hardware design and gutting it until they get a low - mid level device that nobody wants to buy.
It is true that Verizon has the best all-around network of all the US carriers, but their sales/customer service has me to the point of turning hostile. I have been looking at various ways to move my family to another carrier, AT&T would not be my fist choice but I REALLY want the 1520, and with Verizon releasing yet another crippled version of a flagship device because they have some kind of personal issue with Microsoft has me actively looking for ways to cost Verizon more money than they make from me.
Either way it looks like I have to choose between the possible release of the 5" 929, paying around $1000 in termination fees to move the remaining on-contract devices to another provider or trying to manage a gradual move as each contract expires. Time to run the numbers again, maybe AT&T will have a good deal on migrating customers.
Do we know if the lumia 929 is a sure thing?
Outside news, yes and the rumors say early November (possibly the 6th).
The 929 is a stripped down phone. Not wasting money on that, (not giving up unlimited data) I'm getting tired of the garbage phones verizon feeds us.
Yes, I'd like a verizon "1520".. with micro SD card slot and 32gb at least.. + leave in the wireless charging. :smileyhappy:
Make our dreams come true Big Red!
Well they have released the specs on the AT&T version of the 1520, we seriously have to get these providers out of the device business and have them focus on providing a solid network, and they are a major disappointment too.
While AT&T did keep the excellent 6" screen, they dropped the storage down to 16GB with no SD card slot and an obsolete wireless charging standard. I just do not get it, what is with the US carriers that they cannot take an excellent hardware design and just release it, or get out of the way and let me buy it straight from the manufacturer, instead of dumbing it down until nobody wants it anymore?
Well, since AT&T has blown it, guess I will cancel my plan to migrate to their service for now. It is likely that Verizon will once again get my money for the 929, not because I am eager to own it but because it is the closest thing I can get right now to what I am looking for and my current device is dying, but I will continue to search for ways to exploit their system to cost them more than they make from me as they simply have me beyond annoyed with their ridiculous sales/support policies.
The 929 is looking better despite the smaller screen then, it has 32GB, wireless charging and BT 4.0...

Yes, but the screen difference is more than just the size.
The 1520 uses the Nokia ClearBlack IPS LCD as opposed to the AMOLED of the 929.
But I agree that the 32GB and QI charging are going to convince me to get the phone as I have to get something and it is the best of a collection of weak choices. Unless of course Verizon stalls to long and I have no choice but to get a Note III or Mega, even though Android is not my favorite OS, as I really need a replacement ASAP.
According to Nokia's comparison tool, the 1520 should have everything we need, except for LTE band 13. Hopefully we will hear good things from those adventurous few who manage to track down a handset (and VZW-compatible nano-SIM, if required) and the inclination to give it a shot.

I find this thread very interesting. This large "phablet" might be okay for me. While I've been wishing that they'd come out with a phone with a slideout keyboard, this might work for my large hands.
But this begs a question: Why does AT&T get all the good Windows phones while Verizon pretty much ignores them? Does the Verizon management have stock in AT&T?
AT&T likes to go for exclusivity. They'll throw money into high profile devices instead of putting it into their network.
I remember this article I believe 4 months go. T-Mobile and Verizon individually spent more on their network than Sprint and AT&T combined. T-Mobile has foregone the basic subsidization model do to the amount of money they are spending to improve their network. They have no real big exclusive devices and they more than likely not.
From what I have heard, Verizon execs are upset with Microsoft over the whole Kin fiasco and have apparently decided to undermine the Windows Phone on their network... or once again, they might just be incompetent.
I actually got to play with a 1520 for a bit yesterday, I want this phone bad... bad enough that I am willing to go through the hassle of moving my 5 phones, 1 mifi and a home connect to AT&T if my 30 day test of their network pans out.
I will have to move all the devices slowly over the next year... but every quarter will see less of my money going to Verizon, which is not something I will be disappointed about.
I might go into an AT&T store and check it out. I'm still on my TP2 (which was given to me by a friend after my old 6700 died.) I've been with Verizon since 1998, when it was actually Bell Atlantic Mobile and they merged multiple companies to become Verizon. While their coverage seems to be the best, their devices are usually behind the curve.
After doing further looking, it seems Band 13 is their bread & butter for LTE. So, even if you get the international-LTE version (to get around ATT's lock,) and convince them to put a non-Verizon phone on the network, you would be condemned to 3G speeds domestically. Rah.
I'd do a 2-year contract today if VZW came out with the 1520...but according to VZW we are all supposed to like Iphones and Droids....
And now AT&T is coming out with a 32GB Bandit...
http://www.wpcentral.com/att-32gb-nokia-lumia-1520-january-10
Holy Jebus, what is with the new security.... laughable I had to do all that for invalid certificates... a strong password for laughable security for secret questions that can be answered by anyone.... Atta boy verizon....
Look like you all were right. I'm also wondering what the road map is now since the discussions between microsoft and verizon are taking so long... Is there a newer phone on the horizon? It doesn't make sense to wait for this phone now if there will be a better screen and camera coming.
Also, what is the chance of T moblie getting a version of this?
Other than little things, like 611 going to the wrong carrier's center, it works just fine on T-Mobile now, so why bother? Not counting having to deal with ATT for 2-weeks for the unlock code. At least ATT's logo is smaller, so less space taken up by pimping.
I finally stopped by the AT&T store and they did have the 1520. All's I can say is WOW!!! I am seriously thinking about changing over to AT&T.
But to tell more of the story, I did stop by the VZW store first today (largest one in my city that I know of) and asked them about Windows Phones. They only have 2 on display, but had 4 Blackberry, 3 Apple and 27 Androids! Their first excuse was that they wanted to see how a model sells at their competitors first before adding it to VZW. So, they admitted to me that when it comes to Microsoft, they have no problem using older technology. When I pointed that out, they also said it had to do with market share... to which I pointed out that Microsoft has a bigger market share than Blackberry, yet that store had twice as many Blackberries as Windows Phones.
Nokia looks to be adding more colors: http://wmpoweruser.com/nokias-facebook-page-reveals-the-lumia-1520-in-cyan-and-green/
I just want the black one, so the colors don't mean anything to me, but I think it's good that Nokia is expanding this model. Too bad VZW refuses to allow this model on their network.
Maybe one day, phones will just have swappable radios so that it won't matter what network - just plug in the appropriate module to connect to whichever network you're getting service from.
Just wish for VoLTE. When Verizon switches to that then Block C applies on all those devices and there is no grandfathering(no CDMA radio, or network).
So... maybe the year 2020? And that still doesn't mean they won't put something in the system to stop us from using any phone we want.
They'd violate block c rules and lose this billions and block c licensing. That's up to them.
The Nexus 7 already proves what I say... Google openly admitted they screwed up on the activation software, however if the Sim is already active the Nexus 7 will work. It doesn't have a CDMA radio.
Saw this today:

More good news about 1520: http://wmpoweruser.com/delta-airlines-to-upgrade-more-than-20000-flight-attendants-to-nokia-lumia-1520-phablets/
The more I read about people who use it loving it, the more VZW ignores it.
1520 continues to be very popular. Now, there's rumor that a newer version of that, the 1525, is coming out and that Microsoft will make it available to T-Mobile, AT&T and..... VERIZON!!!!
Now... I know it's only a rumor, but I'm crossing my fingers that Verizon won't shut us out again.
