Lumia Cyan with Windows Phone 8.1 roll-out starts today (7/15/2015)

Microsoft has started rolling out Lumia Cyan with Windows Phone 8.1 to Lumia devices. With Windows Phone 8.1, Lumia Cyan owners will get several new features, including a third column in the launcher, Wi-Fi Sense, the new Notification and Action center, and — perhaps most importantly — Cortana.

On the Lumia-specific front, Lumia Cyan brings an updated camera experience with a newly simplified Nokia Camera interface "with one-tap access to edit and share" your photos. Creative Studio 6 is bringing new filters and image enhancement tools, but it's yet available from the Windows Phone Store.

The new Device Hub in Cyan makes it easier to track your connected accessories. By combining awareness of which devices are connected, when they're connected, and where they're connected (and when and where they loose that connection), Device Hub can tell you exactly where you last left that gadget. It will also offer app recommendations for use with said accessories.

Owners of the Nokia Lumia Icon and Nokia Lumia 1520 will see additional enhancements from Lumia Cyan. Already powerhouses when it comes to camera recording, the two phones are also getting enhanced audio recording with Nokia Rich Recording and Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 sound. Screen Share will be integrated with the two smartphones, so you can, well, share your screen. And the SensorCore SDK Beta will also be integrated, bringing additional motion and location data to apps and accessories.

Lumia Cyan is rolling out starting today around the world, though it may not be immediately available for your device. Microsoft states that it will be "available for all Windows Phone 8 Lumia devices in the coming weeks."

So check it out, give it a download, and let us know what you think of Lumia Cyan!

Great news, but this only means that the update was sent to Verizon who will "test" it on their network to ensure it works ok.  But, at least, thanks to Microsoft, we KNOW that Verizion has the update and any delay is THEIR FAULT!  We WILL know whom to blame if their is a long delay in getting this update and I WILL file a complaint with the FCC if this update takes too long to come.  There are important updates and features that I we will receive from this firmware update and as paying customers we deserve to receive it in a timely manner.  SO DON'T DELAY THIS UPDATE VERIZON!

Agreed. From reading articles on Windows Phone Central and other similar websites, it looks like all of the other carriers are pushing this update. People across the globe are seeing the update and tons of users report that they successfully updated their phones to Cyan. There is no excuse for Verizon to delay this update for more than a day or two. Anything beyond that is unacceptable. Testing should be mostly complete as the Preview for Developers has been out for quite some time and has been receiving updates. It sort of feels like Verizon's Windows Phone customers are a last priority.

Windows Phone in general seems to be last priority, just go to the store and see. (SMH)

Actually, I think Blackberry is behind Windows in terms of priority - at least my local store had Windows phones to play with...but not a BB in sight.  Smiley Sad

Personally, i can wait for the update to 8.1 - major OS updates usually seem  to bring a whole new set of issues...I'm curious and interested to see what 8.1 looks like, but I can wait.  My Icon is working just fine right now, and I like it.  Why mess with it?

(Just look at the Kit Kat update threads and then decide how much you really want this update!  I know you really can't compare the two  - but it's still a major update and there is potential for things to go wrong.)

There is always a chance something could go wrong, even AFTER Verizon tests the software, but a lot of people have been using the WP8.1 Developer Preview for months now with only minor problems that Microsoft has already fixed.  The remaining issues are linked to the lack of the Cyan firmware update.  So, there shouldn't be ANY problems if Verizon released this update.

Just update to the Preview for Develops Beta edition of Windows Phone 8.1 and you will be set.  Cortana is the Bomb and you shouldn't have to wait to play with it.

Just because of a delay doesn't make it their fault. What if the update gave poor signal and Verizon sent it back to correct this? Must be pretty tough to be blamed either which way.

If that were the case, then yes, I would still blame Verizon.  If they don't want the blame, then go PUBLIC!  Announce that there is a problem and that the update is being returned to Microsoft/Nokia for updating.  Then I'd put the blame on Microsoft.  However, being left in the dark with no info, how would I know there is a problem?  Without gaining knowledge otherwise, I can only assume Verizon is delaying the update.  If they aren't respectful of us paying customers to let us know there is a problem, then they deserve all the criticism they get!

You just don't understand do you?

Verizon is not required to inform you if any update is being looked at or being pushed out.

Visit the device makers web site for that information.

I visited the Nokia web site and their information is spotty at best. So why would Verizon have better information?

Verizon cannot be blamed for something they don't even have to give you.

Its the same ole thing every day. Misinformation and pointless blame on the wrong party (Verizon)

Verizon is not required to inform me of anything.  You are correct.  However, if they are willfully withholding the information regarding the status of the update, then I am fully within my right to blame them.  They are in control of the update since they are the ones who demand it be tested before being allowed to be pushed by the manufacturer.  I, as a paying customer, have a right to inquire as to the status of this update.  If Verizon chooses to be disrespectful of its customers inquiries and not provide any information, then I am fully within my right to blame them for any delay in receiving my firmware update.  As for checking with the device manufacturer on the status, why would I ask Microsoft or Nokia about the testing phase that is taking place at Verizon?  Verizon is doing the testing, not Microsoft or Nokia.  So that comment is just plain stupid.  "Verizon cannot be blamed for something they don't even have to give you."  Really!?  If Verizon is the reason for me not getting the update that the manufacturer is providing, then you better believe I would place FULL blame on Verizon!  Why wouldn't I.  Again another stupid comment.  You are the one spreading misinformation and pointless blame on the wrong party (Microsoft/Nokia).

Did you go to the Nokia web site (Microsoft owns the brand) The information is what is happening as of the date they gave the information.

Who says Verizon has the update? Show me the link.

Or stop the constant misinformation and misdirected anger towards Verizon. Produce proof. Not conjecture.

I believe another poster asked you for proof on that so called FCC complaint and you used a corny reason not to produce the proof. Its a secret. (Confidential)

And as I pointed out another poster said what if Verizon sent it back to the device maker because it did not pass? Again that is the manufacturers responsibility to keep their customers informed. Not your cell carrier.

Again Verizon sells you a service to the cellular and data networks. Nothing else.

They don't make devices and they make nothing more than money. And they don't have to update money.

I find it hard to believe that Verizon doesn't have the update. Instead it's more likely that they are taking their sweet time approving it for release because WP is not a high priority for the company.

That could be the case. However I went and visited the Nokia site and under updates it is sparse. They don't say released to carriers. Just look at this link.

Availability in North America - Nokia

Now tell me what real information is in that link? And this from the maker of the device. I used the 928 as an example only. But you can select any model from the support page.

I've been to the Nokia website and what they provide is a hell of a lot more information than what Veizon is providing.  And as for proof that Verizon has the update, I have a print out of the chat conversation I had with Microsoft that confirms the update was provided to Verizon on July 15th.  I can provide this much info on this public forum (I placed XXXX to hide the name of the Microsoft technician).

And again as I stated yesterday that could also be deflection on their part. (Nokia/Microsoft)

I notice that device makers and OS developers blame the carriers and the other flip side is the carriers blame the device makers and OS developers.

You just cannot tell which one is lying to you.

You will just have to wait as the tech stated in the chat session.

Constant complaining as I also said is not going to get that update any faster or at all.

Update status:

Under testing = undergoing final testing with Microsoft, country or operator to achieve approval.

Again it is not very clear. It could be the deflection I wrote about.

When you have other carriers, including Verizon, releasing the update officially to phones, it’s not hard to see that the update is with the carriers and it is the carriers that are carrying out the testing now. Why would MS give Verizon the 8.1 update for the HTC One but not for their other phones? It doesn’t make sense, especially when you consider the update is included with the 930 internationally. If the 930 launched with just regular 8.0 and international carriers have yet to release 8.1 for the device, then I can see how the update could still be in MS’ hands. However that’s not the case, the update is already pre-installed on the international version of the Icon, the update is done. It’s Verizon who are sitting on it for whatever reason.

I can only tell you the newly released windows phones come with what all the other windows phone users are waiting for which is the update.

I have seen similar with other devices and device OS. (Android, iOS) There are released android phones and apple devices that come out with the up to date OS. Then as in other situations like with Androids, some devices are just dropped from any support via any updates. I take the LG Spectrum (Not the Spectrum 2) which never received any update like the second version had.

Apple also dropped support for a few of their devices. I am sure you know that.

As far as who has what, well that is just a guess. If the device makers are not telling exactly what phase its in and who has it now there has to be a reason.

Can you actually say for certain Verizon has it? I know I could not. Or any other carrier? Yes I have seen the web link where AT&T has sent it out.

You could be right its just Verizon being slow, I am not saying that is not the case. I am only trying to get across that when they or any carriers release the updates it is solely their decision.

It is also their decision is they choose to release it or not. As with other devices and their updates, it is not the fundamental reason to purchase a device. If you get an update its a bonus. It is not what the device had on initial purchase and the devices worked on the networks so as a carrier the device worked as designed.

People just have to have patience.

I agree we don’t know anything for sure, but the signs do point to them having it. I also agree that customers need to have patience, but we have been patient so far. What makes this frustrating is the lack of transparency between the consumer and company.

True, they aren’t entitled to inform the public on anything, just like they don’t have to release the update at all. However that doesn’t make for good customer service.

I still think the biggest problem is how WP is a low priority for Verizon. It didn’t take this long for them to roll out kit kat to their flagship Android phones.

Sorry signs don't point to Verizon having it. I will say only thing and one thing only. If you really want to know if a carrier has an update. Find the FCC certification for the update. If there is none... Carriers don't have the update. I have yet to see anyone find the certification.

FYI it will never be under MS nor a carrier. They do not manufacturer the devices. Carriers don't touch code... No manufacturer let alone Microsoft give anyone on the outside proprietary code...
