Will this prove to be the case?
We should know before Christmas.
I think that was Verizon dropping Microsoft.
It goes in-line with my post, Re: when will verizon wireless get new Windows phones?
I can't find the quote from Nadella that he said something like the markets that were doing poorly for Windows Phones he would pull out. Would you consider VZW a market or the USA a market? Market is a broad term.
We'll know sure enough by the end of the year. As it stands AT&T is said to only be selling the Lumia 950 (Talkman) and no news on who will carry the Lumia 950 XL.
VZW did get the Icon which was a 930 equivalent where no other carrier in the US carried. Though VZW did sit on it for a few months before sell then disconnected a few month later....
I don't know how the Lumia 735 is selling; similar pattern though, sit on it for a few months and then sell it.
Now the question is Microsoft not going to release devices to VZW but OEMs will or is the whole platform dead on VZW?
I want to know about how long is the battery life on the window phone I'm thinking about getting one
I think even more correct is that Microsoft is dropping phones.
Well, I think if the next round of Win 10 phones fizzles then, yes, most likely.
It's a numbers game, plain and simple. If only a relative handful of customers want WP it's just not worth the commitment Verizon has to make to get a CDMA-version of a phone made, not to mention the cost to support such a platform.
The Lumia 735 is on the list for first round updates to Windows 10 Mobile, which is a good sign. Since they're already supporting WP it's just a matter of convincing Microsoft to make a CDMA 950/950XL. Like primortal said, Lumia 735 sales will be telling. The 735 is by no means a flagship device, but it's priced pretty aggressively. Fingers crossed! I'd love a good reason to ditch my iPhone 6.
I Agree. ATT seems to be headed the same way. It seems there is still a pocket of dedicate windows and blackberry fans who are doomed to be disappointed by major U.S. Carriers.
Windows 8 and 8.1 drove away many folks considering a windows phone, myself included. I avoided 8 and 8.1 like the plague!!
Ttrue. My father bought a laptop off the floor to avoid windows 8. My son just updated his new computer to 10 and loves it. Takes all kinds.

Windows 8/8.1 was fine, except Metro UI. That's the only bad thing to me.
Seeing how at&t and T-Mobile are now offering the 4G/LTE version of the Microsoft Surface 3 while Verizon Wireless has remained silent doesn't appear very promising. The last time I was at a local VZW store, the manager checked the network database and didn't find a code/profile for the Surface 3. Without codes, the only way to get a tablet/computer onto the network is to tether a WiFi only version to either a smartphone or Jetpack.
Much of the Internet buzz on this is coming from Satya's Nadella's comments and news reports citing this Windows Central article.
Not much hard evidence is given for a split, but there are several good arguments:
I'm most worried about the last point, because it makes a lot of sense for MS to not bother with a CDMA variant for Verizon. It's market share is horrible anyway, and it's investment with Verizon probably isn't paying out for either company.
I'm due to upgrade my Lumia 928 but haven't because there isn't a clearly superior option on Verizon at this point. The Lumia 735 has a comparatively mediocre camera, the HTC One has an arguably bad camera, and the current LG model seems decidedly "budget" and uninspiring. Two family members still like their sturdy, two-year old Lumia 822s and aren't compelled by anything in the current lineup. A fourth family member upgraded from her HTC 8X only because it had persistent overheating issues (as did my old HTC Trophy) and had become unusable. She is done with HTC and only had the option of the 735 or switching back to Android, which she hates. iPhone isn't really an option in our group. None of us wants to pay the premium for getting sucked into that ecosystem.
I'm going to hang on for a while and see if Verizon and MS part ways in the next few months. If they work things out, we may soldier on with our Windows phones for a couple more years (I'm actually considering a used Lumia Icon at this point, geez). If there are no more good phones (or the relationship ends), I suppose we will have to look at the competition. Unfortunately, the competition in our area of the U.S. doesn't maintain as good of a network as Verizon, so bummers all around. : (
I stopped by a local VZW store an hour ago. Still no code for the Microsoft S3 active or pending. I might get a 735 to replace my Samsung Galaxy S4. Our state's Tax-free weekend is this weekend and I'm seriously considering purchasing a 4Gig/128Gig WiFi only unit from Microsoft and either tether it to my smartphone or pick up a Jetpack.
If Verizon ends up not supporting Windows 10, I will have to switch to AT&T. I have been waiting for Microsoft Lumia 950 XL. I have been a Verizon customer since my first cell phone. I will hate to leave, but looks like Verizon is given me no options. :smileysad:....
The 950s are not compatible with Verizon Wireless's network.
Now...if the next set of Windows Mobile phones...which are expected to be wholly designed by Microsoft...are still not compatible with VZW...even if the decision to skip over VZW was Microsoft's alone...I'm going to give serious consideration to switching over to at&t.
They always make the GSM version first. It's compatible with the European carriers as well as AT&T and T-Mobile, so that's the default model. There is always a chance Microsoft will make a CDMA version but it will probably depend on how sales go in GSM-land.
I wish Microsoft would just do what Apple does and make one version for everybody. If the lads in Cupertino can cram all those radio bands into an iPhone then why can't Microsoft do it on a thicker phone? Time for Microsoft to step up and take a chance. If they are serious about promoting WP and growing the platform, maybe they should act like it?
I have no actual facts or even rumors to add to this conversation; however, because I have dropped TMobile/iPhone and recently switched to Verizon/Lumia 735 Windows 10 Insider Preview and COULDN'T BE HAPPIER with all aspects of this change, I am certain either Microsoft or Verizon will do SOMETHING SOON to ruin my experience.
The 735 should be fine with WP10. I was toying with the idea of switching to the 735 myself. But with the prospect of the Surface Phone, I'm holding off on any upgrades.
For what it's worth, I was in the VZW store a week or so ago and there were not Windows phones on display. I casually mentioned to the VZW guy, "It looks like you guys are getting out of the Windows phone business..". He replied, "Oh, we have some in the back, they just aren't out on display.
I personally think Microsoft will make it big push for Windows phones next year when the upcoming, rumored, "Surface Pone" is released. I believe that will be an Intel based product that will be capable of running the Win10 universal apps. That's when we'll find out if Windows phone will take off or not. Just my opinion.
The nearby VZW store has a 735 out on display.
Just ordered 2nd 735 with 100 off
I ordered the 950xl from Microsoft, looks like I'll be heading to att
Sent from my Windows Phone
Got do what you got do. I'm sorry you leaving Verizon but if ATT has you for phone go for it. Big cannot invest in Microsoft phones because they are spending 80 million dollars in GO90 app
We never want you to consider a move from our wireless family Geebox. We have great devices available, see all options online at vzw.com/SmartphonesWhat specific features attract you on that particular phone? We may have phones with the same features. Keep in mind that a phone is only as good as the network behind it.

Antonio, Verizon Wireless is not carrying any high end Windows phones. Microsoft skipped CDMA certification for the 550 and 950s. Only customers of at&t, T-Mobile and their respective resellers will be able to use those models. The best that VZW can do at this time is offer up the Lumia 735. It is a nice phone for sure, but, it is not a high end/flagship.

You guys have nothing else like this phone:
Windows 10
Cortana
Continuum
Removable Battery
External Storage up to 200g
Liquid Cooling
20mp camera
To name a few.
This is the phone I want, it is unfortunate that I have to leave VZW to get it.
I upgraded to the MS Lumia 735 (makes 2 now) while all this gets sorted out. VZW was fiving a 10.. credit at the time. Net cost = 92.00
OK, Now that Lumia 735 is supported by MSFT Windows Device Recovery Tool for rest to 8.1, I added Windows Insider to it (Free) and now have Windows 10. Like it a lot. No hitches during upgrade
I upgraded my HTC One (M8) the same way, but lost messaging and Cortana in the process.
I'm heading to a local Verizon store tomorrow, and if they can't fix it, I'm off to elsewhere. I refuse to buy any
This is a silly rumor started by a couple of honked off fanboys because they're in a snit about the Lumia 950. They can't get it on Verizon BECAUSE OF MICROSOFT'S DECISION TO BLOCK THE CDMA BANDS so they're lashing out. At the completely wrong company! If you want to be mad, blame the company that is really responsible - Microsoft.

Surface phone... What I predicted is going to come true? Hopefully so... Been waiting for it.
I know that there was a sighting of was is believed to be a prototype phone. The interview left me with the feeling that the Surface Phone is still a ways away.
They are probably waiting for Apple next announcement for the new iPhone. Somewhat like what Motorola did with the their Droid phone.
As I said in here:
"Its not Verizon, I think its just Microsoft does not like CDMA. Any phone that has CDMA, Verizon will get it but, you will also get the witch(Sprint), begging on their nee to also, get the phone. Its a fact that no company wants to give their best phone, to the witch, that is why they try their best to steer clear of CDMA. We all know why, they will try too keep the phones to themselves, I think it in their witchcraft rules.
Technically the thing is Microsoft does not want to give the witch a good phone I think, so that is why they are steering clear of CDMA all together. You may ask what about the Icon or the 928 back then? Well when the 928 was being created, SprintNextel (Sprint back then) was using iDEN, it was only after a few months when the 928 was being sold did Sprint switch to CDMA.
I think Verizon got the message and is trying to steer clear of the witch, by 2021. The witch still has no plans of turning into a LTE network only. "

Microsoft didn't block them. The just didn't add them. Just like Samsung doesn't add them to the active versions they make for ATT and most of the international and Asian phones dont add them. The majority of carriers in the world are GSM.
I am leaving because I can not get the 950XL the features I like is it not an iphone or an android device I have no use for either of those operating systems. Also my Lumia 928 has not received the 8.1 GDR2 update and I will bet that Verizon will not release the WM10 update. Verizon has the worst customer service department I have ever dealt with both wireless and FIOS. I need a new modem for the FIOS wifi to cover my house and was told the modem I need is $10 more a month why the over $200 (without any movie channels) you are raping me for now is not enough??? I am so tired of your customer service not caring that I am ready to move my home, and my whole family's cellphone service to different carriers.
We want to continue this relationship for many years Louis. I know it is important to have the latest features on your phone. Expecting the 750 to be announced by MSFT in February, will be interesting to see if it becomes available on VZW. In the meantime, 735 with Win 10 via Windows insider is fine for me for now.
Wonder when 735 on VZW will get Win 10 regular update?
You are wrong so far Verizon and Microsoft have not abandoned each other
