The contacts are also backed up on Backup Assistant (not the plus version). Is there a way to get them transferred?

Backing up your contacts is extremely important. You have taken the right steps. Congratulations on the new phone. The S7 device has Verizon Cloud and it works with the Backup Assistant application. Did you try running the Verizon Cloud? Are your contacts anywhere else but the old phone?
