I am trying to retrieve deleted text messages, with content, from February of this year between 2 numbers. Is it possible to retrieve them in full content without a court order? Can a private investigator gain access to them with contest of the owner of the account?

I need to access text messages received on a verizon phone about 10 years ago. I have read some people mention that to retrieve old messages, one needs a court order. Is this still the answer today?
