Back in Sept 2016, Verizon had a promotion to get a FREE iPhone 7 with trade-in of a qualifying iPhone 6. My wife, son ,and I all looked over the details on the Verizon Wireless website. The only question was could we proceed with trade-in even though we still had two more payments on the iPhone 6. We were told that we could proceed and that the payments would come out of the bill and drop off once it was paid off. We went through with the iPhone 7 and returned the iPhone 6. Months later, I was still getting devices charges on my bill.
I contacted Verizon via online chat in December 2016 to speak with a CSR. That person told me that I missed a step of submitting a trade-in form. This is true. I somehow missed an e-mail Verizon sent me to do this. But the CSR said that was not a problem because she would go ahead and submit it for me and after 2-3 months, it would be reflected in my bill. I thought everything was straightened out. Six months later, I am still being charged a device payment.
I contacted Verizon again in June 2017 via online chat. I went through the whole explanation again and after a lengthy time, the CSR determined the problem was that the trade-in form was submitted with the wrong phone number associated with it. She assured me that she corrected it and that their would be a credit in the next bill. Fast forward to December 2017. I am still being charged a device payment for my FREE iPhone 7. I have paid 14 payments (out of 24) totaling $437.36 (out of $749) for a FREE phone!
Once again, I initiated a chat session with a Verizon CSR. This time I explained that I have been a Verizon customer for over 17 years and paid over $30,000 to Verizon over that period and that this needed to be fixed or I will take my business elsewhere. During this chat, I was given the number to the trade-in department to call. The person I spoke to said that because the iPhone 6 was not paid off PRIOR to the trade-in, it did not qualify. That is not what I was told before I made the trade-in. The FREE iPhone 7 is the ONLY reason I decided to trade-in. Otherwise, I could have sold it for decent money. So now I am paying $749 for a phone that was supposed to be FREE because $54.08 in payments that came after the trade-in. They submitted the case for investigation and I am supposed to receive a decision next week, but I think I already know what that decision will be.
Anyone have any recommendations for a good wireless provider in the Columbus Ohio area?
