How is it that my account shows data being used when my device has been turned off for 23hrs?
It might help if you identify your device make/model.
I suppose it would help. ;-)
This is happening on a 6620L hotspot, 5510L hotspot, Motorola Droid Turbo (two different phones).
Currently we use the 6620L hotspot but this started back when we had the 5510L. I suspect that it actually started back when I used a MiFi2200 but I was not paying enough attention to the data usage.
Our usage went way up for whatever reason while we were doing the same basic, and I mean basic things each day. I have all of the computers that I use through the hotspots set to check for but not download updates. I have my printer setup on a separate network.
We started bumping up against our 5gb allotment and so upped it to 10gb. Guess what? Suddenly, we are bumping up against the 10gb allotment. Again not changing out habits. Change to 16gb with 4gb bonus data and bumping up against the allotment again. Driving me nuts.
Looking at the usage online, fully half ot the data usage is during a time when the hotspot is turned off. (I have the screen turned on all the time so that I can truly tell if it is off) In addition, we are now removing the battery after we turn it off and guess what.
IT IS STILL USING DATA WHEN HAVING BEEN OFF FOR 20 HOURS.
And Verizon wants me to go to the "beyond unlimited" plan so they can slow me down after 22gb of usage, 11gb of which will happen in the middle of the night when I am sleeping and the phones are turned off.
Data you see isn't use when your device is turned off. It is simply the time the tower reported that usage and it shows on your account.
So, you are telling me that it takes 20 hours for the tower to report the data?
The day before, sometimes, the tower reports data every couple of hours or even the same day.
Oh, in addition, we make sure that the hotspot reports data usage before we turn it off and remove the battery.
It could take up to 24 hours.
Do they get to pick "which" 24 hours?
Here is a partial of my current usage.
This shows that the tower does not appear to be having a problem with longer term reporting.
The hotspot was turned off and battery removed after the 2:59PM entry which is a good approximation of the data usage around that time period.
hipkts,
I understand how having data usage reflect on your account even when the device is turned off raises a concern. Let's take a look. Please respond to the private message.
