Voice mail notification on unlocked phone

How do I get voice mail notification on my unlocked phone? My account shows I have basic voice mail. But for some reason on an unlocked phone, I get no notification and so constantly miss messages. My spouse's Verizon phone gets notifications just fine.

What type of phone do you have??

I have a S 7 edge and don't know if the settings are the same or not but I go to Setting-notifications - advance - then go down to voicemail and tap on it make sure you have set as priority then there is a Blue I tap that and make sure the settings are right.

Are you talking about a carrier unlocked phone? Meaning this is a non-VZW device.

VM is a carrier service and with non-carrier phones not all carrier service may work as expected. Maybe try a 3rd party voice mail like Google Voice or YouMail.
