NW Portland New Cell Tower -Not Acceptable in Residential Neighborhood

I am a resident with a home at approximately 91st and Leahy. I just learned that a new cell tower by Verizon may now block the beautiful sunset views that we have enjoyed for 24 years. This is a residential area and Verizon & PGE have no business putting a cell tower in this area near the greenery and walking trails here. There are other commercial options nearby within a mile. (St Vincents Hospital, QFC or Peterkort Shopping Centers). Please use your voice as Verizon Customers to make sure they have looked at the commercial options nearby and stop this from happening. May have to consider a new carrier. Thank you, Lisa D

You should voice your concerns to your local city council member and the planning commission or board.

The tower itself might be disguised as a tree to blend in with the environment if applicable.

PS I'm just another customer like yourself and not an employee of Verizon Wireless.

A) the tower was approved by your local zoning board

Where would you rather them put a tower? out in the middle of nowhere where it does no good? You mentioned 3 other places. Did occur to you that the property owners of those 3 places did not give Verizon permission to put tower there? Verizon can't put a tower anywhere. They don't own the land the towers sit on. They have to come to an agreement with the property owner first. Even then they have to get zoning permission.

C) Ironically the people the scream the loudest about terrible coverage are the ones like you who don't want new towers near them. If none of the other carrier have towers near you don't be shocked when their coverage stinks. because you see distance form the tower and coverage go hand in hand. You think mobile is magic that runs on rainbows and unicorns?

A) Gaining approval by a zoning board normally is a multi-year process in most areas due to opposition by local environmental groups. I know that in my area, some towers took 5-10 years before gaining approval. Whether or not zoning board members live in a neighborhood is likely the LAST reason for tower placement.

B)And those other commercial options may not have as many positive factors for placement. These may include but are not limited to elevation at location and in surrounding areas, surrounding buildings, surrounding foliage, access by Verizon to the area at all hours of the day/night, etc...
