I have just moved to a rural area in the mountains. Map wise I am in 4G LTE country for Verizon. Using Open Signal I get 4G service upto approximately a 1/4 mile from my home (top of my driveway). Then I switch to an extended network (third party tower that I can actually physically see from my home). My data switches to 3G and of course phone says extended network.
Result is I do not get 4G service in my home. In addition my phone, a Note 8, is the only smartphone in family of 4 that gets 3G.
Checking my signal strength I am getting -62DBA from the local tower. I do not know what strength I may get from the Verizon tower.
Questions
1. Is there a way to isolate that tower and see my strength from it at home?
2. Can I use an antenna and amplifier to boost the signal from the LTE tower or will I be stuck hooking up to the nearer third party tower?
3. Should I use a directional or omni-directional antenna?
Thank you
