Leaving Verizon after 25 years for TMobile - What is the 1st step ?

after seeing a $1,200 phone bill based on European Data and Voice, with no help by Verizon, I'm leaving for TMobile. Is anyone else out there in the process of doing this, and how difficult is it ?

Verizon "Customer Service" is pretty poor, and the default is to charge more at every turn. I just learned that I can leave with a balance on my account, which will give me much more leverage one I'm gone.

Anybody out there on the same path as me ??

So you are choosing to leave because you didn't research your options before your trip to estimate the potential usage charges for roaming in another country? How is that Verizon's fault?

I left TMobile because their service is terrible.

Why did you get a $1200 bill? Did you take your phone outside the USA and use it without first getting an international rate plan?

Verizon did not extend a service plan as asked.

Was TMobile really that bad ? My son LIVES in Germany, and we can all be on the same plan.

I took TMobile because they were the only carrier that offered me a line with my credit rating. It was terrible. Also, I live near Philadelphia. A coworker has TMobile. She had an iPhone 5 and they disabled her phone because they didn't want to support that device any longer. Disabled it while she was using it. She has a 6S now but she walks 3 feet into our office and cannot get service. She must go outside to get a connection. We are in a major populated area. Sure, they may be cheaper but you get what you pay for. I just watched John Legere's video about the 55+ plan. He is a good salesman and has helped T-Mo make a bunch of improvements and money but that doesn't mean they are comparible to VZW.

My best suggestion is to look into their return policy and understand that fully. Before making the switch completely, go get 1 phone with a number you don't care about. Test it out for the amount of time that you have under the return policy. If it works, keep the service and transfer your numbers. If it doesn't, you haven't lost much. It would stink to go through the hassle of switching to find out that you don't like the service and then decide to switch back.

mfreeland, losing such a long term customer is the very last thing that we would want to see happening. You mentioned a service plan, which plan was to have been added? When traveling, we do send alert messages to the device and the account email address advising of the roaming charges as a precaution. This way, if you are receiving alerts and did anticipate a plan, you would be able to contact us to ensure that all is well. Do you recall receiving these messages?

I assume you're young, and are drinking the Verizon Kool-Aid. The issue is that TMobile is owned by bDeutche Telecom, and as such, can offer free roaming and data in most Of Europe. As such, Verizon is not a good option for me over there. What I now must do is get ANOTHER PHONE, and another number, and forward Verizon calls to that device when I'm there for work. Verizon had no remedy for the issue, and has given me an adjustment, but little else. Platitudes are nice, but have no cash value. Verizon is working internally to cut costs ( threatening to outsource site engineering to Ericsson) in order to maintain margins in the new market. It won't work. Infrastructure is built out, and price wars are the norm. It's nice to see Verizon, always so stalwart about pricing, being pummeled into a competitive position by carriers like TMobile.

It was long overdue.

The data roaming abroad for the T-Mobile plan might be free, but it doesn't mean there aren't any restrictions abroad. "Texting & data abroad: Standard speeds approximately 128kbps." looks like a strong restriction.

mfreeland, as you are a regular business traveler I can absolutely understand that you need service and a good plan option for your travels.What specific countries do you travel to in Europe?
