Verizon Coverage

About 10 years ago, I went to Verizon along with my other 3 family members because of Verizon's stronger signal coverage versus ATT and others. Over the last 6-12 months or so, it has really deteriorated in general with more dropped calls and weaker signals all the way around. Specifically in my area, Castle Rock (80108), CO, it is dropping calls in areas in did not before. I always assumed coverage would always get better over time and not worse? What changed in the last year or so with Verizon - did you take out towers or other changes - clearly something happened and not just me, all in my area are complaining?

We are looking at shopping to ATT and others again but don't really want to - but when you can't get basis coverage in your populated area and other normal areas that I travel to where I could before, it makes me want to see what else is available at this cost.

Verizon Wireless has been shifting the towers around to refarm their existing frequencies from CDMA networks to LTE networks. If your devices are not VoLTE capable, they might be experiencing some issues, but at the same time there would be fewer devices on the CDMA network as people get newer devices.

I too have been have trouble with dropped calls in Castle Rock in areas that previously were okay including in my house! What gives! My wife has at&t and does not experience the dropped calls, thinking about switching as well.

It started approximately 4 to 6 months ago, and has not been getting any better. It is mainly is this area, although I have more dropped calls in the Denver metro area as well.

A check of the area does indicate that our towers are working normally in Castle Rock. There are some pockets of marginal coverage in this area due to terrain and no clear line of site to a tower but it only impacts certain locations. Since this is an Advanced LTE area, we do want to ensure your device is enabled for HD services in order to obtain the best results. Can you provide us with your make and model device?

I too have the same problem of dropped calls but in yale, mich. At least the last 6-8 months. We got Verizon about 12 yrs ago because of the coverage area. But it is getting terrible.

I am having the same problem with dropped calls and have spent hours talking to different verizon tech people. Finally got the answer via text that basically there is nothing they can do about it. Last option is a network booster...Would I actually have to pay extra for that?

Also it recommended to make sure HD was enabled and that a check mark by voice and data would indicate that it is. Well it is and that has not helped. However one guy on one of these chats said he disabled HD by clicking on data only and he does not have the problem anymore. Does that make any sense.

Also please tell me if a network booster will do any good and if it will cost??

I am on phone with tech support now and they are trying to get me to change cellular settings, etc. But this is not my problem, it's Verizon's. Something on their end has changed dramatically in the past 6-9 months.

It has become so inconvenient that my family is looking at other carriers. I have a teenage daughter and this is a safety issue. If she needs to call us but cannot due to spotty/poor coverage, that's a problem.

Lastly, they are telling me that the stretch of I-25 north to Castle Pines is a dead zone and they have not had any reports of problems in those areas. That cannot be true. I never had problems having business calls in those areas until the last six months.

I really hate to move as it is a big hassle, but we are being left with no other choice.

I would have to say the problem is not resolved. I had a very courteous person call me back and try to address my problem and said they elevated it to their technical group. I was then texted various updates with the latest being "The Review of your reported service issue is complete. Please click the link for more details."

The link was just a generic "Signal Concern Resolution" webpage. It acknowledges that there is less than optimal signal strength in Castle Rock. It says that while Verizon has the nation's best network, there are small pockets that experience these kinds of negative connections.

It lists other impacts to service such as network usage, seasonal issues (large groups of people or foliage), population increases and new construction which interrupts line of sight.

However, it finishes with a disclaimer of Verizon is constantly reviewing service areas, but we can't share any build-out plans nor can we provide any information about when the service might improve.

I will again contend this issue has changed in the last 6-9 months and is probably due to population increases in Castle Rock. However, it is clear there is no plan on Verizon's part to improve the service. Since we aren't moving to area with better service, we'll have to look at other carriers who have better coverage in Castle Rock.

We're having the same issues in Boulder, CO. We have 5 lines with VZW, all are experiencing issues. Texts don't send/receive in a reasonable time frame...I'm talking about 30 minutes to almost 4 hours for a text to be received, and multiple send failures. Calls aren't going out or being received, reception strength has dropped from our typical 3-5 bars to 0 in many areas even when standing outside with low obstruction. We are also experiencing extremely slow to no data connectivity when not using WiFi.

I've tinkered with all the network settings on our devices and haven't been able to find any resolution, work-around, etc.

I know its not a SIM card issue as all devices are experiencing the problems. I have a suspicion this has to do with XFINITY's new mobile service that uses the Verizon infrastructure, but I don't have any evidence. In any case, this is ridiculous. After researching over the web, multiple users across the US, and Colorado in particular are having these issues. To put the icing on the cake, Verizon has offered no explanation, which is poor transparency (go figure).

Ann154, they're not switching from CDMA to LTE, as they already have LTE on their CDMA network. VZW is switching their towers to GSM.

Also, we have 3 lines with VoLTE compatible devices and we still don't have service.

LTE is a GSM network. Verizon Wireless is shutting down their CDMA network and converting it to LTE.

Verizon is switching their entire network from CDMA to LTE (which is the Long Term Evolution of GSM) by refarming their existing 2G/3G 850 & 1900mhz spectrum from CDMA to LTE technology in addition to their 700, 1700 & 2100 mhz spectrum already using LTE technology. Once the process is fully complete they will cease to operate the CDMA technology on their network. Verizon's 4G network is not CDMA, as CDMA is only used on the 2&3G portions of their networks. LTE is not CDMA as it uses the 4th generation+ Time Division functionality of GSM not Code Division to transmit voice & data. Currently they have towers that operate on both technology types, splitting the bandwidth between network types whereas in the future they'll have just 1 network technology which will be a more efficient and faster solution.

No, LTE is not a GSM network. LTE handles data only, not communication, meaning regardless of the situation at VZW, LTE relies on CDMA or GSM to handle communication.

A simple Google search of the network technology definitions confirms this- "Long-Term Evolution(LTE) is a standard for high-speed wirelesscommunication for mobile phones and data terminals, based on the GSM/EDGE and UMTS/HSPA technologies" LTE (telecommunication) - Wikipedia

Also, LTE handles voice communication- Voice over Long-Term Evolution (VoLTE) is a standard for high-speed wireless communication for mobile phones and data terminals. It is based on the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) network, with specific profiles for control and media plans of voice service on LTE defined by GSMA. Voice over LTE - Wikipedia

There are already phones on the market that are LTE only operational on the Verizon network, including one sold by them-

in a very sporadic and random way. Pretty frustrating with the amount of

money we are paying Verizon.

So bla bla bla, we have no reports of spotty service in Castle Rock................service still sucks in castle rock, and it's everyone I've talked to with Verizon service, we've all explain our issue over and over again, what's the same. Reception for Verizon has went to the toilet in the last 9 months to a year, its Verizon it's not our phones, what is Verizon doing about it, I can't even make a call in my home home without dropping the calL. Fix the problem already, or does AT&T get my business!

I have the same issue specifically from the new Castle Rock Parkway exit going to just north of the Castle Pines Parkway exit. This has only started since about May timeframe.
