text messenger not working on new droid

I disabled the standard messenger apps and installed the Messenger app that I used on my old phone.

I can see the app and the contact number, can type messages, and hit send--and it always says: Failed.

I'm not sure about the NFC, Bluetooth, and various permissions that are involved with switching from an old phone to a new one. Most features are working, except the Messaging and Email Setup.

I just want to verify - are you able to message with the other apps? I understand you're not wanting to use the other apps. Just curious if this is an issue with only that app, or with SMS altogether on your phone. Also, which model Droid is this?
