I experienced 1x here yesterday all over the Pasadena Rose Bowl and parking lots: 1001 Rose Bowl Dr., Pasadena, CA 91103-2813.

1xRTT is the slowest and oldest network type used on the Verizon Wireless network. It is basically 2G and handles voice calls and text messages.
