Internet Data Speed is Extremely Slow

Prior to me upgrading to the unlimited data plan I had the XL plan which offered 16gb of data which was amazing. After the upgrade to Unlimited data my data speed went from 38mps to 0.22mps.. this is a joke. its been like this for a couple montha now and this is unacceptable. I have only been using on average 7gbs a month and now i can't even use anything because everything keeps saying its timed out or no network connection. If this is going to turn into the same situation as Tmobile when they released the unlimited no contract option I will have to find a new carrier to use.

Update.. now its gone down to .02mps.. can someone at Verizon please explain to me what is going on before I start processing a carrier transfer or downgrade my internet to nothing since i can't use it

If on the unlimited plan there is potential data reprioritization at 22GB on smartphones and 10GB on "data-only" devices. Have you hit either of these amounts? What kind of device are you referring to this occuring to?

You have the option of course in switching to a plan that gives an allowance like the XL plan you stated you had before if you prefer that....

Everyone I know in the 96041 area code has is getting an average of 0.08 mbps download. Literally the worst service I have ever experienced. It's like being on an old dial up modem. Verizon knows about this and isn't even trying to address or fix the issue. They just say "we would like to ask a few additional questions to get a better understanding of what's specifically taking place. What zip code are you located in? Are there any other customers in your area that are experiencing the same speeds lately?"

Multiple reports of slow data would indicate....to me....a cell tower is overloading or experiencing some sort of hardware issues.

If the problem is more widespread, Verizon Wireless might have a problem with network congestion.

I'm in 92867 and I get .002 that's horrible. And we have atleast 6 towers within a mile radius

I and everyone I know have had this issue for over a month maybe 2. I notice no pattern other than the service is basically unusable. Speed tests, downloads from any source and streaming music or any kind of video is basically impossible at 0.05 mbps. Getting simple emails out is a challenge. I also have no choice as to my provider where I live since Verizon is the only service available in my neck of the woods.

TERRIBLE...After changing from 30GB data plan to Unlimited, my Speedtest.com results have gone from super to less than turtle speed. If it goes any faster, it will be going backwards! Is this 3G instead of my former 4G service? 3G must be better than less than the dial-up speed I'm now getting...I'm better off going back to my original 30GB plan and paying more - not waiting more!!!!!

Yes, I'm online on a very capable, new-model iMac through a Verizon JetPack. I am a disabled senior and conduct most business through the internet. We have no landline. (The current problem proves that my JetPack purchase was very unwise.) I understand prioritization. Under my former 30GB/mo plan, I routinely had service of about 20 down/5 up.

Currently, "speedtest.net <http://speedtest.net/>" shows 0.56 down/0.60 up. Major poor, and not as advertised in that a customer may perceive from VZW advertising that they can play games/watch videos/etc - which I don't. My Pixel XL smartphone shows data speeds in excess of 50 both ways.

So, is the answer to go back to my 30GB/mo "limited" data plan or stay here in the "Unlimited" land, cross my fingers, and hope VZW fixes the system capacity problem soon? I was much better off using my former DSL...which, was arbitrarily speed-limited to enable sales to new customers, as the current VZW business model seems to be envisioned.

Is the current U plan gaining or losing customers?

Or...maybe I should just pay off my contracted obligations and take my business elsewhere and thereby help to reduce VZW's "system capacity" problem? That will make a lot of "noise" for me, but may be my best move in the long run.

I would say if it affects you that negatively, switch back to a plan with an allowance that doesn't include data reprioritization. While this plan works well for many people-- it doesn't work as well for some people in certain areas that consistently use large amounts of data.

This is simply one option you have, and luckily there is no commitment or contract to stay on this or any other plan so you can switch from it and back to it down the road if you like :smileyhappy:

If you need 30 GB/month at faster speeds, switch back to your old plan.

Verizon's currrent unlimited plan gives you 10 GB/month of data at 4G speeds and then slows you to 3G speeds(600kbps) for the rest of your billing cycle.

You can also switch providers, but keep in mind that they all have data limits of some kind before slowing your data down.

A quick side note...the Jetpack isn't really meant to be used as a primary Internet access device. Verizon Wireless has a different unit for such an application. The device is still governed by the same rules as the Jetpack is when used in conjunction with the Unlimited Data plan.

Yea... "Stream all you want, you have unlimited data.". The first 10 GB is great. But then they drop your speed down to what they say is" 3G". I have been around long enough to remember 3G.

Tonight it took me 12 1/2 minuets to just get through the sign in for My Verizon, it being the only tab open at that. Just to look at my usage was a 25 minuet ordeal. How do you "stream" at this slow speed?

Hell, my content here could not be saved due to an error and automatically was signed out before I could Finnish my reply the first time......

After another 12 minuets signing back in, I now have over an hour of time to do this post.

The XL plan was great, good speeds all month long. Now I spend most of my time online clicking on the "WAIT" box to answer the "PAGE NOT RESPONDING"/ "WAIT" or "KILL" dialog box....

SPRINT is looking better now........

As everyone has noticed data speeds have dropped tremendously on Verizon. If everyone can recall and Confirm on these forums. The slowness started October last year. The reason you want to remember that (if it's true in your particular case) is Verizon launched its "Network Optimization" protocol. I spoke to corporate and they were actually kind enough to tell me the truth. At least I feel it's true. They said they planned on launching a new Unlimited plan again but they were going to limit data speeds (like ATT put in their fine print 3mb speed for their unlimited, but Verizon has not specified in the fine print the speed) They also mentioned that the ruse for this to get the heavy data users on the plan and slow them so they leave Verizon. I have been permitted to leave with no penalty (17 lines they told me I should take else where, despite I am the only one who goes over 5gb of data a month, I use 24gb on avg but I am not on the new Unlimited plan, I pay for the 24gb, 16gb plan and 8gb bonus due to admitted data problems they are not willing to fix). So if you are noticing slow speeds you are "flagged" for removal. If Verizon is your only carrier in the area. The only known loop hole for getting around the throttled speed is to get a new account and new phone number and new phone. If you just change phone number but still on the same account well it's your account that is flagged so it's a moot point. It's clever really. I give my vote to Verizon for doing this. Hopefully this answers everyone's concern on slow data... You notice the same repetitive response, oh let's get to the bottom of your problem, then the final question is how much data have you used already this cycle? Genius.

Well, looks like I am in the same boat as a lot of other ticked off Verizon customers. I have been a customer since 2009. I have paid THOUSANDS of dollars (probably TENS of thousands by now) to get good coverage in my rural area. I paid through the nose for a huge data plan. Bills were regularly $600+ a month so I was overjoyed to get an "unlimited" plan and save hundreds every month. I was told ALL my devices would get 22GB before any slowing of speeds. WRONG. First month or two were smooth sailing! Until they decided data only devices didn't count now and reduced it to 10 GB. Ok, no problem but now even worse, my PHONE which I have used between 5-7 GB of data on gets only 1-2 bars when it used to get 3-5 bars in this very same house! I am online now at 12:30 am when there should be very little "network congestion" and it took me 4 tries to get this page to load! I feel very upset that after being a loyal customer for 8 years that they did this to me. I wasn't using like hundreds of GBs either. I think I was around 60GB a month on high months. I doubt if another carrier can even get coverage out here so what, I am just stuck with dial up speed now? Or if I go back to paying through the nose for a XL plan will the speed come back or am I just [Removed] at this point???

My entire family is complaining how slow the internet speed is on our phones on two different Verizon wireless plans. It is clear something has been done to slow down speeds. We cannot get access to Netflix, Twitter and more because of poor speed. At best we now get 2 bar signal strength.

I agree with you and your family. Before switching to unlimited recently I was pretty satisfied with speeds besides the fact that it’s not so great near the medical center in Houston. Ever since switching to unlimited I have noticed drastic changes on all 4 of our phones. Verizon claims they know nothing about it and always send me to tech support but nothing helps. Right now I have all bars and LTE on my iPhone 7 Plus and

I've noticed the same thing and that's why I'm on this forum. Not pleased at all Verizon! What to be done about this? That's the question. They can take their unlimited data and shove it. I'm an "over the road" trucker and I need fast internet all over the country. I can accept there's dead zones, but this is definitely linked to the so called "unlimited data". The only two options I can see are, one, buy a high dollar signal booster, and or, two, change carriers. I'm probably going to do both.

You can also look into Unlimitedville.com. They have hotspot plans for the 4 major cellular providers: Yellow Plan(Sprint) @ $99/month, Pink(T-Mobile) @ $149/month, Blue(AT&T) @ $199/month and Red(Verizon) @ $249/month. These plans supposedly come with no throttling or re-prioritization of your 4G LTE data.

If I had a need for it, I would certainly check them out.

I am on 60G shared data plan, not unlimited. Have been for years. Service OK up to 3 or 4 mBps on a good day. Last few weeks, still 3 or 4 at 3 am, but down to 0.04 during day. Almost unusable. spent hours on phone with V tech. Level 3 cut me off and no way to get back to him. I have a powered antenna on roof, a professional router that cost $600 and am 1.25 miles from V cell tower (Although in Canyon). Signal strength-76 dB - good.

Tomorrow, having Exede satellite internet installed. Horror stories abound about these guys, but can't be any worse the Verizon. Once I get half decent internet, I will abandon Verizon. It's all due to the unlimited plans with lot of new customers or "upgrades" so overall it's a gain in $$$ for Verizon. Some customers losing out like me but why should V care. As pointed out, Verizon wants people who use large amounts of data to leave. I imagine, once enough customers get frustrated enough, Verizon may do something about it, but I'll be gone.

I also have horrible data speeds. I have raised this concern with Verizon tier 1 dept and also the tier 3. They have always came back with the same answer that there is congestion. So verizon create more bandwidth! You charge a premium I expect premium service. I have read in forums and website I am not the only one with this problem. I am really close to leaving verizon.

Verizon certainly has technicians, but well ahead of this occuring they are simply asking you to do a speed test (go to speedtest.net or similar site to complete) which doesn't involve you going anywhere....

Someone in the VZ community pointed out that VZ wish to get rid of high data users, even long time customers who are not even on an unlimited plan. This makes room for people upgrading or otherwise going to an unlimited plan, where they can readily throttle your download speed and even warn you about upfront. I believe this happened to me. VZ gets to use your bandwidth to serve more customers and thereby can make more profit. VZ Tech people are probably in the dark and cannot or are forbidden to help (guess).

I suggest you take a look at "Unlimitedville.com". You can get a free trial for 14 days.

I received one of their routers yesterday. My speeds went from 0.03 mBps in the morning with Verizon to 4 or so up to 13.2 mBps with the new router from Unlimitedville in the afternoon. I then reduced the unusable 60G I was paying VZ for down to 20G since I won't be using VZ for internet access anymore. As soon as I can, I aim to drop VZ altogether because of their shoddy treatment and go to another carrier for phone service.

I just switched to unlimited internet and I noticed a dramatic slowdown to my service. We switched a few days ago and I have not been able to watch Netflix, YouTube or any other video on the same devices I was able to use a week ago. I mean, even checking my email is much slower and forget trying to download something bigger.. I'm reall not Happy with Verizon for trying to pull the wool over our eyes like that.

There should be a civil suit because of this. I will give them the benefit of the doubt for now and see if this can be resolved quicklyBut I'm getting nervous reading all the post of people having the same problem.

Did you sign up for GoUnlimited or BeyondUnlimited? There is a difference which could explain your problems depending which one you have.
