Degradation in Signal/Reception

I've searched many of the questions/discussions about recent signal degradation, all OVER. I used to have great service, as well as my friends and family who also use Verizon. Now, we are ALL experiencing POOR reception that includes dropped calls and calls that go through but you can't hear one or the other person on the line. We also have been experiencing a lack of LTE where we used to have it.

You USED to have the best coverage. Location? All over Northern, Northwestern Colorado. Doesn't seem to matter which city - it's happening in Ft Collins, Loveland, Berthoud, Longmont, Lyons, Estes Park (we had GREAT LTE there, nope, not anymore).

What gives Verizon? IMO buying a "network extender" is NOT the answer, especially when it used to be great.

There is no noted difference between indoors or outdoors - actually, it really doesn't matter. When we had good service indoors, we now have bad. When we had good service outdoors, it is now bad.

None of us have added new apps. It is not limited to a certain "OS" - meaning, it's all types of OS: iOS, Samsung, LG, doesn't matter. None of us actually use our phones for much other than talk, text, and occasional social apps. To note, my Father has an old school flip phone and doesn't use anything but voice and has noticed the same degradation in service.

As mentioned previously, yes, there is an issue with text & data. Where we used to have LTE coverage, we have little or none now at times. As you know, iOS sends messages using iMessage if available. Lately, it is not available as often and is sending texts as SMS messages. Which kind of sucks if you don't have unlimited texting.

Also to note - the company I work for here in Colorado is also experiencing a huge issue with Verizon coverage affecting our business applications/servers/networks. Perhaps you all should consider that maybe you're being hacked? Just a thought...

Based on the extensive number of complaints recently, I don't think this is limited to your cell phone customers. There seems to be a definite issue with your overall NETWORK that I am hoping you can address so you don't lose your "bread & butter" customer base of your average cell phone users.

We've been on Verizon for the last 20 years with no problem...until a few months ago. We're lucky if we get 3 bars around our house now. Most calls get dropped. Verizon support suggested I use Wi-Fi Calling. How about Verizon just restore my wireless phone service back to what we had?

I too have been having problems. I put in a ticket and they told me no one else was complaining and to use my WiFi (which VERIZON doesn't pay for) for calling or buy an extender. Why pay 90$ a month for something I can't use. They also suggested I get a new sim card, restore network connection and restore phone.

Can we get service back? What gives VERIZON, why tell everyone to buy a extender or use our WiFi??? Seems like a cop out to me.

Would like to add, that it doesn't matter if my phone doesn't have anything but default apps, it still says 1-2 bars. I am running the most current iOS and am lucky to get 2 bars LTE. 3G is virtually unusable.

I have the same problem and on two lines Android/ iOS and just recently switched the iOS to visible ( verion service) and nothing changed for the phone. Weak signal to no signal from Vero Beach, Fl. Agusta, ga. kenesaw, ga. (Where I have a really bad issue with calls not coming in at all in zipcode 30144) and 4G connection not even loading up google.com in Gainesville, FL. Really considering going back to project fi or at&t if I can't get reliable service at a $90+ price point.

I'm on an unlimited plan and I have problems indoor and outdoor. Call quality is the most frustrating, voice breaking up on either end and dropped calls. I had a problem with my other line which I gave to my mother, where it would always ring on the callers end but not on her end. If I'm not mistaking that's against fcc rules and when she took it to the Verizon store no one could help her. That's in the area code I mentioned earlier. There's issues with you're internet quality and speed as well, will show full signal LTE and I will have to restart or manually reset my internet.

Has anyone seen their service return to what it used to be?

My wife and I are (all of a sudden) now experiencing this same thing. We used to have full bars inside our home and as of a few days ago the reception is terrible. I can't call my bank. I can't call anyone, really, from inside my home. It is INCREDIBLY frustrating. I continued my contract with Verizon under the assumption that the service at my home wouldn't change, otherwise I would have gone with a different carrier.

Verizon fix it crew - you reading this? Please feel free to tell someone in N. Seattle (98103 / 98133) to get things back to normal. This is not OK.

I am experiencing the same exact issues as all of the previous posters to this thread. This affects my tasks whether indoors or outdoors. Both are equally as painful as the other.

The connectivity issues are in all of the same instances (text, voice, data, gps, and the general ability to acquire a signal). It will show full bars and then any attempted task causes either a 4-5sec freeze, or the ‘thinking/searching’ icon. I’m just north of the Seattle Metro area (98203-98087)

This issue has only only recently popped up. Map software, mileage tracking, location recognition have essentially 10% chance of working. But aside from GPS/location, voice reception has become unbearable and I’m actually relieved when a quick web search produces any result.

Have reset network settings, soft reset phone (IPhone 6S), toggled airplane mode on/off, closed any/all running apps/tasks/activities/etc & restarted phone dozens of times. Even let it fully charge & tried again.

Havent added any new SW of any kind in 6+ weeks. This began 2-3 weeks back and is becoming more frequent by the day. Puzzled. All I can think that I’ve yet to try is to factory reset and reload from the backup image? Would love a more simple option.....

P.S. I do NOT let my kids within 10yds of my phone. And yes, my computer is plugged in and turned on! <==Yep, that is bad tech support humor from my IT days of 15-20yrs ago

My wife and I are experiencing the same degradation of service. It coincided with the addition of a new tower that is physically closer to me and yet is too low in elevation. I have worked closely with Verizon technicians for the past 25 years and have been. I was told by a regional manager (now retired) that whenever a new tower is put inservice that surrounding towers get the power output turned down. We both went from having 3-4 bars to 1-2 consistently (both inside and outside our home). This is also true for our neighbors and visitors to our home. Voice quality is choppy with the other end hearing about every 3rd word. Frequent disconnects are the norm. We cannot use WiFi calling as there is definite additional interference with our home WiFi (2.4 GHz)

We both are required to be on call (She is a nurse and I work for a network provider that provides fiber to Cell site). At this rate we will have to switch to another provider if verizon can not work with us to resolve the issues. We have not downloaded any new apps and have worked with verizon support to no resolve.

Please help.

WoW! I knew it was bad in our area but had no idea this was happening all over the country! Southeast Kansas, 66743, 66771, 66712, 67357, 66780 are just a few local towns where signal has declined in the last 6 months. Data is horrible! I have spoken with Technical assistants for hours on the phone. Facebooked with techs. They checked my phone settings and I did speed tests for them that were very low... Most of the time below 2 Mbps in our area, sometimes not even 1Mbps. I have some dropped calls and very little data.(Data is next to useless) This seems to be what everyone here (on Verizon) is experiencing! So sad because months ago I had better service than anyone else I worked with, no matter where we went. I just wish Verizon would fess up and tell us the truth, "we are sorry but we have lost contracts on your local towers, changed services in your area or just stopped trying! Stop telling me you're working on making our service better. It was better, now it's degraded to what we had 15 years ago! Please help?

I am having a very similar problem in Southcentral Alaska. Verizon used to be the best provider around until a year or so ago. Now Verizon service is awful unless you are right in Anchorage. Mamy places where I used to have perfect service...calls and text...now I have absolutely NO service whatsoever. These aren't remote places but in many towns in Southcentral. I have heard rumor that it is because Verizon is no longer using contracted towerd with other companies. I called and talked with customer service bit they had no explanation or solution. My contract is ending and I will no longer be a Verizon customer unless this changes.

Of course coverage maps are only as accurate as the information entered. They can vary Drastically depending on the power levels per site entered. In my own case, I can tell you the Verizon site number that affected my service for the negative in Zip code 88061.

Yeah, there are total dead areas in our corner of the state but the map has our whole area covered in red. My sister & her husband signed up with Verizon but when they got home there was no signal. Verizon sent out a tech and found no coverage in their area so they let them out of the contract. But that area is red on the map.

Still quite frustrated with all this. I can't call people to make appointments, schedule work, or anything else from inside my home. Either I start a call and it doesn't go through because there's little-to-no reception, or it goes through and someone is asking me to repeat EVERYTHING I say as they're only getting one in three or ten words.

This is NOT OK, Verizon. You guys need to fix this, stat.

I am becoming ever more frustrated with Verizon, my house obviously has not been moved but over the past 15 years or so service quality has dropped to the point that I must use WiFi in my house or my cell phone cannot even make or receive calls. According to "Network Cell Info Lite" app my Verizon LTE is running at -116dBm (aka 0/1 bar) in my living room, forgetting about my basement and it does not seem to matter if I am using an old Droid MAXX, Galaxy S5 or S7.

I cannot believe this is signal congestion issue per-se like was reported to me in previous complaints as in the years past my S5 would have full strength in the basement and now my S7 barely works on the deck outside, yet both phones work great in Belvidere, along I90 and in Elgin. Everyone knows Verizon was the best and Sprint and ATT were unusable out in the country, however, I had to drive to the Boone County restaurant to swap two phone numbers last week with my family Verizon service.

Searching available towers I see what I believe is a boosters across the lake that may be interfering with the tower just north of IL173 and IL76 but looking at the available towers near my home in Candlewick Lake Illinois it also looks like some have been moved closer to Belvidere (at least in power levels) leaving gaps in the coverage area between Poplar Grove, Boone County Airport, Belvidere, Caledonia with LTE signals ranging from -82 to -121 and nothing below -100dBm should ever exist.

How can this be improved???

Me too. Do we all need to dump Verizon?? The service is not worth the charge, that is for sure!!! $125 a month for unlimited that is constantly going out or so slow, you just give up??!!

This is happening all over the country in residential areas mostly. You will notice you can be a mile away from a mall with 5 bars but you get 1 bar at home. They do not plan to fix this issue while they roll out 5g and it will only get worse. They will focus the towers on dense businesses and events and expect everyone else to use wifi and extenders, the only thing good about it is they will loan you an extender for free now. The reality is they will lose a lot of customers and they know it but this is how they are ripping off the bandaid to upgrade infrastructure to micro cells for 5g, and they figure if they are first people will eventually come back. I understand, but it really upsets me that they don't do anything about it for long standing customers, especially those who work from home. I have had unusable 1 bar all year in California, and it would be fine but comcast who also is the backbone for the Verizon data has constantly been working on and breaking the internet in my area. So I frequently have no wifi calling and no backup tethering and I work from home.

I am having similar issues. Called 611, and they supposedly checked the problem. How can they check for problems if they don’t send a technician out to check the tower in my area. I live in a rural area and used to get 4-5 bars with excellent service. Now I only get 1 bar. I call and they go through the motions, but nothing changes. Unfortunately, no other service works in my area, so I’m stuck.

I have had this problem with both my iPhone 7 and my new iPhone Xs. I am

still having problems receiving calls and dropped calls while inside my

home and while walking around outside when I have between 2 and 3 bars of

signal strength. My husband tried calling me this morning, my phone never

rang and it went to voicemail. I have an 9.7 iPad that also has problems

with data slowdown and believe that the cell towers in my area need to be

physically checked, and not just checked remotely.

Verizon signal really sucks!!

Verizon used to have the best coverage but now it really sucks, we have been experiencing really poor signal strength for months and it seems to be getting worse, we live in Rockford Illinois and now we have calls dropping can't even talk to my spouse because or any family or friends because eather one can't hear the other or calls drop THIS IS REALLY FRUSTRATING!!!!

They are taking our money and we are not receiving the service that we were promised

I guess is time to try a different provider.

I'm in the same boat. We’ve had a drastic drop in our LTE signal in the past couple months. My family has 3 recent iPhones, all used to get strong LTE coverage all over our house, now all drop to 3G and 1x. Download speeds on the Home Fusion router fell from the normal 20-30 megabits/sec download to 1-2mbs, and dropped connections are frequent.

I’ve waited several weeks to see if service would come back to normal, but it has not. We’re in a rural area, and depend on these devices for internet. Between the 15GB “mobile hotspot” cap on the marginal Home Fusion system and the inability to use the phones as hotspots anymore (due to the poor signal), I’m quite frustrated.

I've noticed a drop in signal quality over the past year as well with my Note 4 and today, I can't even make a phone call out of my house without the signal crapping out on me---and I live in the 9th largest city in my state. With as much money as we pay, you'd think the signal quality would be perfect. I get so sick of being ripped off.

You know, your answer would make so much sense if ChestnutD wrote something along the lines of "hey we coated our house with sheet metal and now we don't have a signal" but he didn't. He's in the same building he's been in WHEN USED TO GET GOOD SERVICE. It's not the building or the materials...it's Verizon. Your signal quality is garbage. Fix it.

IN NJ with same problem. Tech support explained that verizon is changing {upgrading LOL) wireless service, **bleep**!!!!!

Solutions? Use wifi calling (which is a real pain, at least in my experience, and not what I am paying for). Pay $250 for an extender. We did this but then found out that it only works with certain phones, not all, even brand new Motorola 6G not supported.

Then we found out that T Mobile offers free extender for all 4G plus phones. So after 30 years with Verizon they will lose us (2 accounts), and likely our family and friends who are having the same problems with calls.

Luckily in Raleigh NC the service is still very good all over. I’m a contractor and drive all over and I have had no issues over the last few years

But in Kissimmee and Orlando where I’m vacationing?!?! It’s like I’m in a war zone. My I-phone works zero here. I’ve drove to Orlando and back and all around Kissimee and the service is beyond a joke all around here. My daughters brand new I phone 10 is just as bad as my 9 months old 8 plus

Thats why I found this forum. 5 days in Orlando and I want to throw my phone away. I’ve missed calls, texts, emails, been driving and lost convection with google maps.

If I lived anywhere near Orlando I’d get a new carrier ASAP.

I think the biggest joke for all of us in reading these is the Verizon response..."are you indoors or outdoors". Pretty poor response. I did not "relocate", but my service went south. We don't need a petty question. How about Verizon be honest and tell us why their service changed. I'm definitely seeking other carriers. There are a few of us that had Verizon because we could have service in the slightly remote area of Georgia that we are in. And we "Had" service for several years. Now it's pathetic. Georgia did not "move" Verizon, but the service did. And you all charge the highest premium...for bad service. Then you wonder why we're leaving?

I'm having the exact issue in 24012. I used to have great signal with no issues for years until around August 2018. Now i'm lucky to get 2 bars and I am constantly in 3g or 1x no matter if I am inside our outside my house. I even have a Verizon tower within 2 miles of my house. Somthing is definitely going on with Verizon's signal.

My family is experiencing this degradation in 4G/LTE signal @ our address - inside the house and outside. This is a fairly new, and I am not sure if it correlates to the addition of 5G equipment on some of the area towers, but we have gone from 3/4 bars to 1. I am in the city in a well populated area and the signal strength used to be very good. Verizon Support - please help!

The answer SHOULD NOT BE:

1) purchase a signal extender
2) purchase a 5G phone

I see I am not alone experiencing recent signal degradation. I have a Samsung Note 10 Plus. Purchased from Verizon not elsewhere. I switched to Verizon because of superior service and I've had that for the last 11 months. For approximately 3 weeks I have been experiencing poor signal and dropped calls. Just forget even attempting to do any type of video conference. My cell is my main communication to family, friends and work. Being alone at home during this pandemic is depressing enough but without reliable means of communicating with the outside world it is incredibly much worse. I cannot even stand in the middle of the street and get a decent signal.

Since your asking everyone where they are. I'm in Edinburg, TX 78541. My closest major cross streets are 10th and Monte Cristo. Please let me know something soon.

. I am in Knoxville, Tennessee (37918 zip code). Nothing has changed with my house or property. Actually, approximately 50 trees were removed from behind my house by a neighbor, which should enhance connectivity I would think. Text and data are greatly impacted. I am connected to my in house internet connection via wi-fi, so calls usually are going over that connection. When i send a text with a photo, it takes several minutes for the text to go through. When i am not connected to my Xfinity wi-fi, internet searches are extremely slow.

I too have been experiencing very poor coverage for the last year. I called and put in a ticket last year and after waiting two weeks received a video message that coverage in my area (in a suburb of Phoenix) was suboptimal and I could purchase a wifi extender. At another time, I was told that problems were due to interference from Mexico (I live in central Az not on the border). I called two weeks ago and was told I would receive a wifi extender at no cost, still have not received it. I called again today and was told I could receive a "discount". I don't understand why I should have to pay to fix Verizon's poor coverage. I've been a loyal customer since 1995 but am so frustrated I am most likely going to change providers. I'm working from home and have had numerous dropped calls and very poor quality.

I have the same issue- We have 4 iPhones and 1 Android. Up until about 3 weeks ago we all had 4 to 5 bars inside the house and no one ever complained of dropped calls. Now we all have 2 to 0 bars with dropped calls and Verizon can only say they are experiencing service outages in our area. garbage they are!!!! This is happening all over the country. I asked Verizon to send me the Samsung 4G LTE Network Extender 2 so I can use the service I pay for each month and they said there was no stock, sorry!! Now after reading through all the fixes I came across an article that suggests Verizon is pulling some lines for 5G and degrading the 4G signal to force consumers into higher 5G contracts. I'll put on my conspiracy theory foil hat ad say its possible Verizon is doing this but why would they.

All I want is a signal and service that works.

you have to realize that Verizon is siphoning off money elsewhere while degrading service and paying customer service reps to pretend that shouldn't be happening; they can't help you, and all they are there for is to put on a charade/show to eventually exhaust you and make you give up. NOTE: the individual reps might not be consciously aware of this themselves, so don't take it out on them.

Consumerreports have rated cellular providers since cell phones came out by quality tests. Verizon for twenty years or so was always #1. Today, it is #24 out of 26. You won't get this fixed; they (the high ups) are intentionally defrauding you. i suggest you download T-Mobile's Trial app and try their service free for 30 days to compare, and if that doesn't work, look elsewhere. US Cellular has great reviews now.
