Data Overage Harassment

No later than April 19 I started getting notifications of data overages. I probably did use the phone more than usual that month, but did my best to limit usage until the cycle ended on the 21st. I thought everything was fine and now suddenly I am being harassed about overages again! May has barely started and I have CERTAINLY not used a lot of data so far, and April is long over! Did someone not get the memo? What is going on here?????!! Thanks for any help!

CoriSCapnSkip That is a great question. What Wi-Fi Assist does is allow your phone to drop Wi-Fi and connect to our Network if the signal is stronger. Turning off the Wi-Fi Assist you will still be able to use your phone as always. Does this help clarify?

You used more data than your plan allowed, VZW is the one who gave you the memo.

You're not going to get data overages from a previous cycle, you went over your limit a second time. I'd suggest going over your My Verizon and check to see which line is using the most amount of data. If you have access to wifi and have an iPhone, go to Settings > Cellular > Wifi Assist - make sure this is turned OFF.

Otherwise, dial *611 and get someone to look at your account. If your cycle starts every 22nd and ends every 21st, you've exceeded your limit from 04/22 - 05/03. No one can help unless you provide more info on what phone you have and what you're doing.

Billing period doesn't go from the 1st to the end of the month. maybe for a select few people for example mine is form teh 27th to teh 26th of teh nest month. Also you can turn off notifications. Thirdly turn on safety mode

This gives a better idea. From that we can gather it's streaming taking up the majority of data usage with internet browsing making up the rest of the bulk.

Do you have regular access to wifi? IPhone's are notorious for burning through data if they have wifi assist turned on. This is a setting Apple turns on by default that can pull users off wifi and connect to cell data.

Don't use that use what the actual device says it uses. That chart is basically useless. Your device not will only show you EXACTLY how much data you have used in REAL TIME it will show you which apps SPEFICALLY are using data and how much.

Perhaps I did not understand what was happening. I had to read your explanations several times. Yes, I ran YouTube for about two and a half hours one day because I wanted both to listen to music and to discharge my phone battery. I do have WiFi, but knew the first half would be roaming because I was way down at the end of the yard where the WiFi doesn't reach. During the second half the phone was in the house and I ASSUMED I was using my own WiFi and no problem but maybe not!!!!!

I'm also confused because during April I was in doctor's offices, waiting rooms, etc., a lot. When I thought I was going to spend enough time to make it worthwhile, I asked for their password, otherwise I must have been on roaming, which just about HAD to have added up to more than two hours (looking at email or Facebook or whatever) for the whole MONTH, and yet now they are saying that playing YouTube for just one DAY caused a data overage!!! What in the actual!!!?????!!!

If I change the settings as suggested, will I still be able to access the internet on my phone when too far from the house to use my own WiFi and other WiFi may not be available, or will I just be able to take pictures and make calls and texts and that's it? Does this also mean I can't listen to podcasts? I was going to try to use the phone to catch up on old radio programs because it's a pain trying to set up the laptop outside. Thanks.
