why middle of the night billing texts?

I received a text from Verizon at 3:12 am notifying me that my debit card had been used to pay my monthly bill. The notification noise from the phone woke me up. I had to get up and open the text, or the repeat notification would have continued. This is thoughtless and rude. I wonder how the big shots from Verizon would like it if they received texts at 3am.

Putting the phone on mute is not an option for a number of reasons.

Is this any different than one of your friends sending you a text at that hour waking you and making you have to turn off the reminder?

Most smartphones will allow you to set the Do Not Disturb function on a schedule, that way if you forget to silence the phone before bed, the DND function will silence notifications on the schedule.

Yes, it is different. I'm 75 years old. My family and friends are old enough to have figured out that a middle of the night text is inappropriate unless it is an emergency.

I live alone, and have had my home broken into twice over the years. I have a centrally monitored alarm service that I need to be able to receive communications from them at all hours.

I notice that you did not comment on the stupidity and thoughtlessness of Verizon texting in the middle of the night.

Because Verizon doesn't have a person sitting in a cubicle somewhere wringing their hands together and laughing diabolically while texting people in the middle of the night.

The messages are system generated.

If you must keep your phone's sound turned on through the night, you can put that particular thread on DND or mute depending on your phone's operating system and what messaging app you are using. It will show that the message came through but not ring the device. You could also put the phone on DND and whitelist the telephone number of the alarm company and that will get through.

Sprmankalel, do not disturb is a great feature to limit distractions at night.

laflaone1, getting a text at 3am can be a nuisance. We truly apologize for this. Our text alert messages are system generated and I can assure you that we didn’t send it at that time intentionally. I do want to say hearing that your home has been broken into twice is very scary and made me very sad, especially when you live alone. I rely on my alarm system communications too, so I definitely understand why muting your alerts is not an option. We do a have a way to turn off the alerts from us, even though I don’t recommend it because we send alerts for billing and voice/data usage. Another option I do recommend is changing the alerts from text message to email if you check your email regularly. This way you aren’t disturbed with the text alert. You say these notifications aren't intentional but this is the second time in the last year I've gotten a "You haven't returned your old phone". In both instances the phone was in the mail and showing in the UPS system. This is completely unacceptable. I called into customer support and they said it couldn't be helped because it was an automated message. I disagree. I work for a company that sends text messages and we do not send any automated text messages from 9pm - 8am because our customers also believe this is unacceptable.

So, basically, I'm a long-time customer who bought a very expensive iPhone X, 400 dollars worth of new accessories, upgrade fees for the beyond unlimited plan (for 2) and then you thank me by sending me a text at 12:30 am 2 days after it has been in the mail. ;(
