Being dropped for being in a Verizon LTE , “extended roaming“ area. Dropping over 19000 Customers. Shame on you! No wonder your customer Satisfaction rate is going down!
We received the same letter in our area. None of it makes sense. Many people from all over are saying Verizon is doing this to them, no matter how many years of being a loyal customer, no matter if there is no other reliable service in the area, no matter what. They're leaving us high and dry, I find it odd that they are telling everyone the same story about 19000 people being affected.
We were told that it was because the local carrier was not wanting to let customers with high data usage bounce off their towers anymore.
I am absolutely appalled that we are being treated this way. I've always recommended Verizon over all other carriers. No more.
Wow way to only tell half the story. Verizon can't guarantee the quality of service that people are paying for their money in those areas therefore they're allowing people to go to other providers while Verizon regroups and contemplates putting their own tires in the area so they no longer have to rent bandwidth from their competitors. Oh and by the way don't you dare include the fact that any device purchased up till today that is currently on device payments that is affected by this issue will be fully paid off by Verizon leaving those customers with zero financial hardship dealing with their devices.
I'm sorry that you're being affected by this however isn't Verizon paying off any device no matter how much is left on device payments so that you don't have to pay anything out of pocket? Just to let you know if this were to happen with the Sprint network anyone and everyone would be expected to fulfill their device payment contracts no matter how much was owed on them. I know you're frustrated and I understand your anger but only telling part of the story isn't doing anyone any favors
Yes they are. They are doing it to me and at first I was [Removed] but I'm not gonna let it bother me. I will just switch and take my phone with me. The one thing I wish is that I would have known cause then I would have upgraded all my lines to a note 8 so they could pay those off.

Pleaae stop responding until you know the whole story. my post explains it well, my service never once said roaming, it only said Verizon I asked Verizon years ago 8 to be exact if it was OK where I was located which I am only there 3 days a week. Apparently customer satisfaction is trumped by profit. This affects 19,000 people. Bad idea Verizon..
You should check your recent bills. I had a notice in mine this month about having your service address and most of your usage in non-verizon area and the customer agreement would be changing to reflect this change of the terms. Give me a few hours to pull the exact wording from the bill.
"Important Information Regarding Your Customer Agreement
Verizon Wireless is updating some of the provisions of your Customer Agreement, including that the Agreement applies to anyone who uses your Service. Further, your primary place of use must be within an area served by the network Verizon owns and operates, and data services may be limited while roaming on another carrier's network. Finally, the dispute resolution provision will continue to apply after your Service has ended. For the complete Customer Agreement, visit vzw.com."
I just got the letter yesterday I am being dropped for roaming also.. they say I am using atnt tower to often. Which sucks because I had atnt and there service does not work at home. And it didn't work well around my state (and I travel for work) which is why I switched back to Verizon. I got the unlimited because my phone data with Verizon always worked and I have No other options for internet at my home other than satellite. had no idea that I was roaming because my iPhone has never said "roaming" when I am home (Only home 3 days a week anyway) Would much rather have had the option to go back to an old "non data" plan with Verizon than to be forced to leave Verizon. In my situation it is actually not going to be effective to switch to atnt because the service was largely ineffective. I guess now I have to go landline and just not have a phone when I travel. Thanks Verizon.. rather than work with me and explain the situation you just give me the boot.. and my gf too. had Verizon from 07-16 and then left for just a few months before returning.. thats a lot of business with a company and its dissappointig to be treated so badly. I guess that's the way of the world now.
Thanks tikibar1!
How do you find out if you are being dropped? I'm afraid i may have thrown my letter away
Call them, they will Gleefully let you know. Also, they will ask at the end of the conversation do you have a full understanding to cover their butts
I’m looking for a customer service satisfaction survey, it will be one Verizon never forgets. Also, notice in the past few months, you will see massive data increases In your plan. Carefully constructed plan to with unlimited data plans back to RID us due to “high” usage.
It might be in your documents and receipts section of your MyVerizon account online.
Sounds like people in rural areas where Verizon has partnerships with smaller carriers are effected. When they're NOT on a Verizon tower there is no way for Verizon to monitor or control data speeds according to the service plan. So why, exactly, should Verizon continue to allow this to happen? Verizon, like all mobile networks providers, is a for profit organization. They are free to ask you not to be a customer. There is no law that says they MUST provide you service. Especially, if you are not in their coverage area. They are spending more money than they are making on these types of customers. Verizon Wireless is not a public utility.
Why don't you buy your service from the smaller provider that you seem to be connecting to the most?
Because, I have never been late on a payment, the plan is more expensive, I can’t port my number, doesn’t work out of their service area etc... Verizon is picking and choosing who they want, people that use more data than I aren’t getting letters of termination. I stay on Verizon service area 3 days a week. I think they watch what apps you use and discriminate for lifestyles accordingly.
Verizon is picking and choosing who they want
Verizon doesn't have their own towers in your area. They don't have to pay for you to roam.
I stay on Verizon service area 3 days a week.
Which means you are roaming 4 days a week. That is a majority of your usage on roaming. That is what the agreement says. Is it not? If you spend a majority f your time roaming, your service can be terminated.
I think they watch what apps you use and discriminate for lifestyles accordingly.
Don't know exactly what you're trying to say here. I can definitely assume but I don't like to do that. Would you like to enlighten me?
I believe you are absolutely correct. There was a contracted build-out in eastern Maine that now carries the Verizon signal on the Downeast Scenic By-Way on Rt.1 and surrounding smaller towns from Ellsworth, Hancock County, Maine through a large portion of Washington County. These LOCAL residents that have service agreements with Verizon Wireless are the ones that are being affected. So, the residents and officials of the towns that voted to allow permitting or variances for cell towers have been placed under false pretenses that the service will be available to its residents. The service has, in fact, been available for a little under two years. Many towers also do not transmit any other carrier signals. So, the residents of these towns that host the towers now have to look at them but cannot enjoy the signal availability because Verizon will not allow them to continue with their service agreements.
Business or not, the price of roaming on a contracted tower is not huge. I don't believe for a minute that Verizon created a negative deficit. They use it to say, "hey, we've got the best network availiability"...only to read the small print.
Please explain this.
If Verizon owns the towers why would customers be kept from utilizing them?
We are talking about towers that Verizon does not own and customers roaming on those towers 51% of the time or more.
I am not sure what your point here is.

Let me explain the small print comment. Verizon has been signing residents within this region for years, now only because of people actually living, working and using the service in their area, their service is being discontinued because Verizon is now considering the area out of their "home" network. The towers in the area were contracted by Verizon Wireless for a network build. The company that won the contract, and signed with Verizon to distribute the signal owns the equipment, but only broadcasts a Verizon 4GLTE Signal.
Anyone driving through the area or vacationing in the area can enjoy great 4GLTE Service, but now the residents that live and work here, are forced to a different carrier with less coverage.
I hope this clears up your confusion.

DEEPROSE, I want to make sure you have all the accurate information you need to understand why this has happened. When roaming you are using a non-Verizon tower in order to access service. This is also described in the terms and conditions on our website- available to everyone here > http://vz.to/2h7RX2W
We don't want to lose anyone's business indefinitely. For this small amount of customers we will ensure they are taken care of once they reach out to us directly, as we still respect and value their time.
Here's more information about roaming > http://vz.to/2h6WD9h

8,500 customers are not a small amount!
Can they buy out my contract too? My service is horrible and getting worse. Unfortunately I'm not in these areas.
No.
It is a Verizon service area
Technically it actually isn't a native Verizon Wireless area. The service is provided by a regional carrier who built the network in a partnership agreement with Verizon Wireless. The towers and broadcast equipment are not owned by Verizon Wireless. The regional carrier charges Verizon Wireless for the service used by customers of Verizon Wireless which is a higher rate than they would charge the regional carrier's customers. If you zoom in far enough on the coverage map, you can see exactly where the Verizon 4G LTE and the extended 4G LTE network are marked.

The whole issue is because this is considered roaming by Verizon, right? I mean. that is what your original post was about. You also, understand that Verizon contracts with this regional carrier to provide service to Verizon customers. You do understand that, according to the agreement you signed, if you spend a majority of your time in a roaming state you will be dropped.
How can you now say it is a Verizon service area? It is simple. If Verizon doesn't own the towers, then it is NOT a Verizon service area.
My understanding of this is that it I only affects people on the unlimited plan. So maybe if you like verizons cell service, sign up for a limited data plan? Sales reps are supposed to do their due diligence and check your area before selling you a hotspot. Extended network can't handle Verizon customers streaming unlimited data.
Yep it's all a conspiracy to get rid of customers... seriously on what planet do you exist that this makes sense?
