My MiFi stays in the same place in my house but the signal level may go anywhere from no bars to five bars several times per hour. I've tried turning off unnecessary devices to minimize the potential for interference, but nothing seems to help. I have even moved the MiFi to a remote location in the house near a window that faces my closest Verizon cell tower and it still does the same thing. Although I have had occasional download speeds of 2-3 Mbps, more typically it's around 100kbps. That's too slow to reliably download large updates or stream YouTube videos. All firmware and software are up to date. I get the same results when I use my new iPhone as a hot-spot, so it's not the MiFi. When I run diagnostics, it always shows the ISP as the problem. So, what's up? My zip code is 20158. As with many of the other bloggers, this started about the time I subscribed to the unlimited plan. Before then, I used "safe mode" to avoid overages and I was expecting to be throttled to 100kbps. It was my understanding that with the unlimited plan, I might be throttled if my monthly usage exceeded 20 GB AND the system usage was heavy, but it seems to be permanent. I haven't come close to 20GB yet and my service is really slow.
