phone times out

When cell phone is inactive for outgoing calls for 4 hours on same cell tower it times out. Incoming calls go straight to voicemail as if phone is turned off. Have to call out, move to different cell tower , or turn phone off and on to reset. Tech support of no help!

Richau37, we never want you to be experiencing trouble receiving calls. What make and model phone do you have? When did this begin? You mentioned that if the phone is not in use for a while, then you do not receive calls. Does the phone still show a signal?

It started sometime in the last year. I have an old flip phone. My wife had

a Samsung Galaxy s3. We switched to a new s4 but the problem remained. We

have 4 bars of signal strength.

Richau37, this certainly is an interesting one. Was this happening even with your basic phone? Just so I am completely understanding, let's say that you leave your phone alone for a while, then you pick it up to place a call, do you have any issue with that outgoing call? Any trouble with text messages?

Both phones have the same issue. If phone is unused on same cell tower for

approximately 4 hours it gets "timed out" of the system. Been through

various levels of tech support. Power down, star 228, range extender, buy a

new phone. In the end most admit it's not our phones. The only way to "wake

up" the phone in the network is dial out, power off and on, move to another

cell tower. Issue has occurred at home, at work, in down town Columbus, and

down town Westerville. On the smart phone text and messages come through

while the phone is in "lost" mode. My flip phone does not receive anything

until I "wake" the phone up. I have been with Verizon for since the late

90's. It wasn't even called Verizon back then. Personally I'm beginning to

believe Verizon did a network software update to save money. The final

straw was when I missed emergency calls overnight back in July.

It happens to both phones. A Samsung Galaxy S4 and a flip phone. If the

phone is inactive on the same cell tower for about 4 hours it "times out.'

Doesn't matter if we are at home or other locations like downtown Columbus

Ohio, downtown Westerville Ohio. When phone times out and someone calls it

goes straight to voicemail as if phone is turned off. While in time out

mode the S4 still receives voicemail if messages are left and texts go thru

also. The flip phone does not receive anything until it is awaken in the

system. Both phones can be activated for calls by 1) moving to another cell

tower, 2) dialing out on the phone, 3) turning the phone off and on.
