Coverage degraded in 92130

In the last few months coverage in my area of 92130 has degraded markedly to the point where I have virtually no service at my home. In the past I had 4 bar coverage indoors. It appears that sometime in the spring or early summer the local cell site was replaced with a drastically lower powered site and shifted from an omnidirectional site to a sectored one that must be poorly aligned. Previously we enjoyed 15 years of great coverage on VZW which we switched to from Sprint because of the superior coverage. Can anything be done?

I wondered if they changed the frequency band on the tower that you use. Different bands have different propagation and material penetration characteristics. Other people are complaining of similar experiences. Fine service, strong signal, then all of a sudden, their phones don't work inside their houses.

I'm sorry to hear about these service issues you're experiencing. I depend on my service too and I will be happy to get to the bottom of this for you. I see no current alerts in the area at this time. Let's gather some more details. Do you only experience these issues indoors? Are any other users in the area experiencing the same issues?

Not only indoors and not just my phone. I have a Samsung, my wife and 2 daughters all have iPhones. Inside our house, downstairs, we all oscillate between 0 and 1 bar reception. Also, my phone often indicates that it is not 4G but 1X or 3G. We all experience dropped calls. Upstair we can typically sustain 1 bar coverage occasionally 2 bars.

This is a particular problem for me because I don’t have/use iMessage. I often receive texts hours after they’ve been sent to me. My wife/kids and most of their friends have iPhones and iMessage gets by fine with WiFi unless they are texting me or including me on a group text. I also will have voicemails appear when my phone has never rung.

We live at the end of a cul-de-sac. I often don’t have tolerable coverage until I reach the corner at the end of our street. That is when a lot of delayed text messages and voicemails appear and when I can complete sending out pending texts.

Prior to the spring we always had great coverage. I believe there was a cell site change sometime between March and August with a much lower powered site being installed.

Great post. Download Network Cell Lite and have the wife and kids download OpenSignal. Get the signal strength and up/down speeds at four times of the day, inside and outside the house.

Yes, Verizon probably did make a change to the tower, either frequency band, power, antenna type, arrangement, orientation, aiming or a combination of those. And now your service is effectively non-existent right?

They'll perform an inquiry as to if there is a problem report for the tower or towers in your zip code. I hope for you there actually is a problem that they are working on..

I do see the service in 92130 can vary but please keep in mind that there are always changes that impact our Network, some are controllable and others may not be. Those factors particularly contribute to indoor performance even in cases where you may have had service in the past. This can include cell site changes, foliage, construction, population changes, and interference. Since there does seem to be a significant change when you go from downstairs to upstairs, what signal do you see when you step about 50 feet from your home? Which Samsung device do you use? Which model iPhones do your wife and daughters use?
