Horribly slow data speed

wetherb67, slow data speeds are a concern, we are here to help out. Since it has been over 24 hours since you originally posted, were you able to report your service issue through customer service? Regarding the present service experience, how far out do you need to travel before you notice a difference in speeds?

The red area above is where the bad signal continues to be. I have now included a screenshot of the cell info app I use for further information. It cannot even locate the closest tower within eyesight standing outside. There is definitely a problem. Even though 4g is showing the data speed continues to be around 1 mbps.

Also, here is a line of sight picture to the nearest cell tower. This should NOT be an issue!

We want to be sure your data service is working the way it should wetherb67. What is the zip code where you are having trouble? What plan are you on? How much data has been used during your current billing cycle?

The zip code is 31602. I am not even close to using my data limit, currently at 1.1 GB. Let's eliminate all the useless steps regarding my phone or account, because my wife also has the issues.

Dont feel too bad, I have a jetpack with beyond unlimited plan that has used 0/15GB and it can barely maintain 500Kbps with 5 bars of 4G LTE.

It got elevated to t2 tech then again to networking team and i got an email stating its due to poor service in the area.

They must have forgotten to read the whole log, because my phones mobile hotspot and my other jetpack speeds are just fine in the exact same spot.

So just keep in mind that they will make stuff up and call it an explanation.

At home, when i am not out of state om a job, i pay $100/mo for unlimited data at 100Mbps download. And thats average, not just the speeds on a good day, which will be closer to 140Mbps.

I have the beyond unlimited plan with 2 jetpacks and a Samsung Galaxy S8+. 1 of the jetpacks seems to do okay, although 5-12Mbps i rarely see still, more like 2-3Mbps.

The other jetpack for reasons unkown cant even break 1Mbps which isnt even "okay", its terrible.

My phone usually has the best speeds for hotspot but now i cant even enable hotspot without getting a fatal error mesaage and it wont let me enable.

And its only costing me 3x as much as my home internet.

I am soooo confused!

The 2 jetpaks and the phone as hotspot are all doing the same thing. Why have 3?

And you have home internet - why don't you configure a router on that for all your wifi (you aren't using the jetpaks at home for wifi internet access right?).

Re: the jetpaks, and just considering the signal level they receive:

You can go into the Jetpak Admin Display and verify signal strength RSRP and SNR (Manual pg 70). Compare the 2 Jetpaks.

Also compare network settings (manual page 68).

Your phone? Android? If so download Network Cell Signal Lite and compare RSRP and SNR to it.

Since the jetpaks are essentially routers, there are a whole host (pun intended) of reasons why the effective Mbps through each device to the carrier could be different. I presume you know how to administer these on a detailed level.

wetherb67, it's important to us that you have reliable service. We will need to troubleshoot this problem in order to determine if this is a network issue or device issue. At this time, no outages have been reported in Valdosta, which encourages us to take a closer look at your phones. When did this issue start? Is Wi-Fi enabled on your phones when you have this problem? Did you recently update the software on your phone or download a new application to it?

I forgot to mention, another possible, but less probable reason for the differences in speed between the routers could be a difference in firmware revision between the two devices...

IZ0LI413, we want to make sure that you have nothing but stellar service with your jetpack. If all of your other Verizon Wireless devices are not having issues at your home address, it would seem like a device related issue. How long have you had this jetpack that is giving you troubles? Is there any physical or liquid damage to the jetpack? Keep us posted.

I think the OP is having problems with all of their devices, hence really a tower or network issue...

Maybe 3 months. There has been no liquid or or physical damage to the device. It has not been exposed to excessive heat.

When i talked to t2 tech they said that the sim card on their end had no information for it, I was hoping the networking team they escalated the ticket to might expand on that, but i just got a made up generic email.

I am just south of you in Jasper, FL and I come through Valdosta all the time. The slow LTE speeds have been a continuing issue with Verizon since they added these misleading unlimited plans. Everywhere I go my data speed on a full LTE signal with a direct line of sight to the tower is 3 Mbps at the highest. This is 3G speed, not LTE speed. I along with many other people have tried to explain the extremely slow speeds to Verizon's Tech Coach team and their Network Dept. However, the only information they keep giving me is the same old story they tell everyone. Did you restart your phone, did you reset network settings, there are buildings in the way of your signal, and etc. The people answering the phones at Verizon don't have a clue what is really going on and they are trained to give you those same old answers.

I'm a radio communications tech and I have connections with the contractors that service Verizon's repeaters and network systems in our area. They confirmed to me that Verizon is defiantly deliberately ordering their contractors to slow the data transfer rates way down due to the new "Unlimited Plans".

With that being said there isn't much we can do at this point because Verizon is playing stupid like they don't know what's really going on. Maybe if enough people get behind this they will put the data transfer rate back to where LTE is supposed to be.

I get what you're saying, but why would this be the only area why my data is extremely slow? It seems to be fine everywhere else.

Also, Verizon, if you read my previous posts you will see that this is the only area that this happens. I designated the area that I am having problems with in the first post.

Verizon has that one repeater site "Tower" you're using set to a slower data transfer rate and some of the other sites might be doing ok. I am having the same issue as you. Most of the sites are being slowed down and then occasionally I will get 20 Mbps but that is few ad far between now. The site that my phone uses when I'm home is near the high school and it is very slow like you are explaining. Then I can go somewhere else and it will work fine for a few minutes and then slow down.

Verizon is slowing our speed down on purpose. Why? There could be a number of reasons. However, whats for sure is Verizon isn't about to tell you why or even admit to it. You see how they keep giving you the runaround. That's because they are using prewritten messages with generalized information.

About as far as the nearest AT&T store. Because at the end of the month I'm done with Verizon.

Florida6100, having a quick download speeds is a must. Speeds on a local tower can be impacted from numerous reasons, which include congestion, line of site, structural materials, and so on. We are not purposely slower users down. You air being deprioritized if on a specific type of plan or usage limit is reached. I hope this information provided clarity. Talking you will do no good at all. You guys obviously don't read everything that we are posting in here. I said that your LTE speeds have been tested at several of your tower sites with no obstructions between the phone and the tower antennas. So why would you comment back with a response like this? You guys at Verizon clearly continue to push the blame on us customers when it is clearly your network that is the problem. Nothing is wrong with my phone nor was anything in the way of the signal when my test was conducted. I was also on the "Beyond Unlimited" plan at that time and I had just purchased the plan so I was nowhere near the 22 GB limit.

I've been having the same issue ever since I switched from my Galaxy S5 to my Nexus 6. I went to the Verizon store and they advised it was my phone, so I shelled out 700 some odd dollars for a new Pixel and it does the same thing. CONSTANT 1-3mbps download, not even 1mbps upload ANYWHERE within a 40 mile radius of 01604. Once I get into downtown Boston, I get 30-40mbps, some spots 90mbps. Once I leave the city, forget it. What [Removed] is going on here? I have a ticket opened w/ tier 2. I am no where near the 22GB limit. Verizon is obviously packetshaping HARDCORE because my phone has full LTE full signal. I never had this issue until a few weeks ago. I can't do ANYTHING without being on Wifi... if that's the case why even have a plan? For phone calls? Do you guys even offer flip phones anymore? We apologize for any confusion. We definitely want this to be taken care of. You should always enjoy stellar service. We understand that you might have a clear visual on a tower nearby. Any foliage, surrounding buildings, and other factors can affect signal even if on direct line of sight with a tower. Let's look at all options. What kind of phone do you have? Since this started, does restarting your device help at all with signal or speeds? Have you tried resetting your Network Settings? If any of these steps didn't work, have you attempted to use a new SIM card? Any Verizon Corporate store location can provide you with one for free.

That would certainly depend on how you made the switch. If you made the switch effective at the beginning of your current billing cycle(i.e. backdating the switch), all data usage you had already had during your current billing cycle would apply towards that 22 GB limit. Simply saying you "just purchased the plan" does not indicate whether or not you are anywhere near the limit. There are other factors which would impact that conclusion.

I have had the same problem for months and no answer was ever forthcoming from support. I did finally upgrade to another phone based on a lie told by support and now just want out of any connection with verizon.

No option to make my phone go to 3g.

I missed what phone you have. Yes, you gave them the zip code, but likely there are two different towers, one giving you good speeds, and the other not.

For an Android, Network Cell Info Lite will tell you the Lat/Lon of the tower.

For an iPhone, I think the app OpenSignal will do it too.

Depending on which device - you can force it not to use 4G/LTE, essentially forcing 3G.

Google is your friend.

There is no way in [removed] that the average home cable internet speed is between 4 and 12 Mbps.

I use COX for my home internet and their lowest plan starts at 5Mbps

Then 15Mbps

Then 100Mbps

Then 300Mbps(this plan costs $75/mo for 1 year then $100/mo after that)

There isn't a comparison to be made. If i didnt have to be away from home for such long periods i wouldnt even consider an unlimited plan through a cell conpany.

Well, for what it's worth, the issue seems to have resolved.

last 2 speed tests done in this area showed comparable to other areas.

I REALLY hope this is the last problem in this area and doesn't recur.

I will update if it happens again.

No it is never typical to have max download speed = max upload speed. Even on cable or DSL, the amount of bandwidth allocated for download must be greater than for upload. Frankly, the population pushes much less data to the network than it pulls.
