Rebate Rejection: Those Lying SOS's

This may not be the right board for this topic, but has anybody else gotten a cheap, fine printed white card telling them that their $50.00 rebate submission is invalid because you didn't send in the right UPC bar code? A UPC code that looks ....

Like this copy I made before I put the origional in the envelope?

Their plan may be this: send a tiny rejection card so a large percentage ignore it. 2: Hope that the chump customers that do see it lost his evidence. 3. Hope a small percentage is not as mad as I am!

Anybody up for a class action suit?

Got It! I'm looking forward to (helping) fill my truck's gas tank, with what I think of as what was my own money to begin with. I just got it back. Always read the fine print folks. But even when you do, there are a lot of low-life's out there that hope you'll ignore Their Infractions.

I hate mail in rebates, but you do have to follow the instructions. I'm getting ready to mail in a $50 rebate on my wife's laptop. I prefer to purchase on line and get the on line rebate.

I followed it to a T. Made copies of everything. STAPLED the cardboard cutout of the entire corner of the box to the form, and these A.H.'s are trying to say they didn't get it. I've been burned before - (forget ever getting a rebate from anything from Fry's Electronics). I thought Verizon might have had a little more class.

The way these rebate services work is exactly like I described. What they don't pay out they get to keep. So they deny receiving the proper paperwork, hoping no one will follow up. They steal plan & simple. Why the state Attorneys Generals let them get away with it is beyond me.

Update: Called Verizon, given a FAX number, FAX evidence, "check back in two days".

They don't need to STEAL anything, the unclaimed rebate rate is near 30% already. That leaves them with more than enough money to pay the folks that mail in for their money. By the way, the rebate instructions clearly state NOT to staple anything.

Also, did you ever think it was possible they may have made a mistake? VZW has a whole rebate department to deal with problems with rebates. Give them a call and talk it over with them before you start ranting about how it's all a scheme to steal your $50.

This had nothing to do with Fry's. Most rebates I've ever seen are from the manufacturer. They usually hire a firm of low paid workers to process the rebates. I suspect your information actually got lost. Mistakes do happen. I'm 100 percent sure it is not a vast conspiracy to steal your money.

There is no mention of stapling at all in my rebate instructions/form.

I'd like to alert people to watch for these deceptive postcards; they're deliberatly made to look like junk mail.

OK guys. I'll give it the two days (-after today's FAXing). Let's see what they can do.

To Whom IT May Concern:I dont remember the exact date but it was a while back in the mail daily brochures with great saving opputunities.Calls every day giving spills on ,sign an agreement and get udge savings.Then one night a young lady very dedicated to your company sold me on the Idea,that maybe I should upgrade.Since my boss had been bugging me too get a phone I could get my e-mails on.Well off to the verizon store first thing in the morning.And hopefully get this young lady some recognition. Well the young lady that helped me also was very sold on your customer satisfaction

talking for 20 month signing and the purchase.of certain phone and features to go with it I would receive a $200.00 hundred dollar rebate.I made her very aware I did not believe in rebates they where just a hook that never caught a fish.I have twenty five people I am responsible for where i work and I wish they all had the dedication and customer satisfaction she has.She said she would fill the rebate out so all the t where crossed and I dotted all I had to do was put it in the mail.This is my response from you. Dear Customer: Thank you for participating in the Verizon Wireless promotion. Unfortunately we could not Honor your request due to the following reason(s) Invalid purchase Date.Where I work next to safety customer satisfaction is the very most important issue on the table.Well at the end of my 20 month contract I am going with a differnt company.I dont see you being in business much longer after that if you dont improve your customer satisfaction.People are the best advertising you can buy.How much bad advertising do you think you bought with that card.

Some customers are more "dangerous" than others, and the dubious rebate industry hopes, and in fact counts on, you being a sheep. The more noise you can make (growliing), the better, dispite all the bleeting you'll hear in the background. I appreciate the disgruntled "ranters". The world's a better place because of them.

I also received a postcard in the mail, in regards to my rebate, that said, "Dear Customer: Thank you for participating in the Verizon Wireless promotion. Unfortunately we could not Honor your request due to the following reason(s) Invalid purchase Date." If this is the case, then their Verizon employee (who talked me into a new phone, a $50 rebate, & another 2 year service agreement) either lied to me or was misinformed. Either way, I was not at fault, Verizon was! I will be calling Verizon to file a complaint and insist that they send me the rebate money. If they do not comply, we may be looking at a class action lawsuit. Plus, I'll be telling everybody about their customer service practices and the deceptive selling measures they use on their customers.

In looking over these posts, I don't see where Verizon's gone out of there way to appease anyone. I can only say that from my experience, I do honestly believe that Verizon is being dishonest with people. Ok, yes..I think they are ripping us off, but that's from my experience which I'll try to (as briefly as possible) explain here:

I recently switched from ATT who I had no major problems with, but being out of contract, I thought I'd check out what Verizon had to offer. So one day back in November (2013) I stopped at a Verizon Store. No, sorry...I mean I stopped at a store that had a large VERIZON sign that sold Verizon products. (merely an Authorized Dealer - NOT a VERIZON Store!). Anyway, I was the only customer there and spent a couple hours being helped by a likeable young man, comparing phones, plans, etc. I explained to him that I wasn't planning to buy at that time but wanted to get all the information.

The prices he quoted me for the plan, the android phone, the plan, and the tablet were so incredible that I could not say no. His sshpeal included 2 rebates, both for $50. The 1st was a rebate he'd give me as a promotion they were running and I didn't have to do anything to get. I remember asking if he'd give me something in writing and he replied that nothing was needed. He pointed to the sign and said see that? It's on the sign, no problem, you'll get it automatically in a couple weeks. I reluctantly said ok. The 2nd rebate card would be obtained by mailing in the code off the box.

Later that evening this nice young man called me and explained that he found out he was supposed to charge me for the tablet. He said I needed to pay more. He explained that I could bring it back, but I told him how inconvenient that would be. He started getting a little pushy and again suggested I come in and pay him more money. I started to get a little upset now and he could probably sense that I was about to hang up and call someone else (like the police). He reminded me that he had my credit card info from paying the tax on the tablet (the only charge supposedly). He said he could (and would) just charge the card for the tablet. I don't even remember the amount he wanted to charge since I was starting to see red and thinking about who I needed to call to report this "shake down"

I decided to call Verizon customer service and give them a chance to clear this up. While calling, I got back in my car to go to the nearby Verizon store. Oooops, no I mean that store that has a big Verizon sign and sells Verizon Products. My intention was to drop off these newly bought products and get them to release my from their bogus contract, especially since they were now telling me about all the other fees that nice young man neglected to tell me about. Ok, that's being way too polite, he lied...through his teeth...about everything. I had wasted an extra hour going through everything..every point. every fee, allcommunication.

I forget how many hours I invested with customer service, but eventually negotiated most of what I had been promised, at close to the amount I had been promised. So I decided to stay with Verizon. Why? Why didn't I run.

ok, back to the $50 rebates. I did finally receive one. my guess is that was the one I mailed in for. I knew I was getting another one because (being the untrusting sort I am), I had called weeks earlier to verify that I was indeed getting these rebate cards. The lady I talked to at the Verizon Rebate Center told me that yes, they were processing a rebate card for me. I explained that there were suppose to be to rebate cards. She checked, and when she got back on the line said yes, they were processing two (2) $50 rebate cards for me.

I just called yesterday and they confirmed that one card had been mailed and gave me the date. I asked about the 2nd rebate card. The person I was talking to said there isn't any 2nd rebate. I explained that I had called and verified that they were processing two $50 rebate cards. He said, sorry, there's only one. I invested another hour or two talking with 2 customer reps, both explaining I had only been entitled to one $50 rebate and the other one simply never existed.

Who do you believe?

I feel like I’ve been lied to for so long now. I bought two iPhone 11’s and two other brand new phones and told me I was eligible for $300 for each line I ported over. They made me do the highest plan possible with Disney and everything. My first bill was $550 and my second bill is 300 and some but we can’t give you your rebate now after being told I was getting it. They even told me at the rebate center when I called that I was getting it and everything was good. This is bad business and I will proceed to go to the top if I have to because I don’t like being lied to
