UML290 Antenna Questions

Two questions:

Are there any antenna’s available for the 4G side of the UML290?

Do they just grab what is there, or help pull-in the signal from nearby?

Example … In my driveway the LV 4G modem gets 7.2 meg down, .43 meg up. Inside the house its 3.5 meg down, .25 meg up if near a window … lose it completely if in an interior room. 1000 feet away the 4G service is 20.2 meg down, 5.38 meg up. The 4G signal strength in our neighborhood varies significantly ... rocket ships to bottle rockets.

I returned the LV modem, cancelled the 4G service and waiting for the Pantech to become available in our area with an antenna solution to the poor 4G signal strength at our house.

Unfortunately at this time Verizon Wireless does not have an antenna as an available accessory for the Pantech UML290 4G USB Modem.

I FIND IT WIERD THEY RELEASE A MODEM WITH NO ANTENNAS TO PURCHSE FOR IT KNOWING IT IS NEEDED IN ALLOT OF CASES IF NOT MOST...LET ME RELEASE A NEW CAR WITHOUT A FUEL TANK

Not the same comparison, this modem works out of the box, just like when you drive a car off a car lot because it has a gas tank. I live in the country and i get 2 to 3 bars. The coverage map is pretty accurate, but in some instances, you might need a antenna. The speed between 2 bars and 3 bars is so minimal, i could not tell the different with 2 internet speed checkers. Antennas are a add on, and are usually released by a 3rd party and they are pretty good about having a antenna for a product soon after the companies that make antennas can get their hands on em. The UML is a little different than others as it has a 3g antenna port and a 4g antenna port. You can check with the 3g store also. My cradlepoint mbr1000 works with this uml290 after the latest firmware came out. Not bad to have products out there a few weeks after it was released.

I live on the road (motor home) and use a cell phone booster signal setup from Wilson Electronics. When I bought the Pantech UML290, I contacted them to see if same booster could be adapted from my Iphone to the UML 290. They said the antenna could be but not the interior booster. Suggested instead of a 5x boost in signal, I could perhaps get a 1x or 2x improvement using only the antenna. They do not sell the adapter for the UML 290. They referred me to wpsantennas.com telephone number (877) 594-5766. Person there told me I needed an adapter cable identified as their part number WA-1071 (price was $14.95 for the adapter.) I am very pleased with Wilson Electronics and with the WPS Antenna folks. Very helpful, knowledgeable and prompt with their service. All that being said, the improvement in my signal in Ft. Lauderdale was from two bars to three bars. Hope this helps you. sundance
