@Jmoy wrote: I was trying to use the IRS website to receive transcripts online. To do this you must set up an account that is verified by your phone # and the fact that its registered to you. My number is not working and my account is registered to me. Anyone have experience with this?
What does it show indicating your 'number is not working'? Is there a support/help contact procedure on the site? Are you listed on your account as the account holder or the primary user and are you using the EXACT name layout?
I had the same problem and it was because it's a pre-paid account.
Hello Jmoy! We're sorry to read that you're having trouble with the IRS page.

I have a standard paid account and still ran into this same exact problem. I just went around and around with a Verizon rep for the last 20 minutes. He kept telling me my account was registered in my name, and I told him the IRS does not believe so. Eventually, he just wasted my time and steered me towards an FAQ page to change the name on my caller ID....pointless.
It sounds like Verizon has an issue with phone registry, especially when it comes to the IRS. Maybe John should have a look into the matter, especially since millions of Americans are trying to receive their stimulus checks and are required to know their AGI to do so.
Fail.
I'm having the same issue. I cant verify my phone number because im on verizon prepaid im assuming. they cant get the caller id to verify my name. first i was thinking they can detect if its prepaid since they can be activated without ID verification. But it just might be they cant get our name as we filed taxes with. I need my AGI to proceed with filing taxes, but this process wont work nor will they send the Mail verification method which takes 10 days since the coronavirus is going on. STUCK
same issue here. I am on a post-pay account which was converted from a pre-pay early this year. I don't know if this is the reason IRS can't verify. I read from t-mobile forum that you have to get caller id correctly displaying your legal name. Also read from att forum that you have to check if you have a locked experian account with wrong information where very likely the IRS is verifying information with. I have tried all of them, still failed. A HUGE PAIN!
Or, I am speculating if one should have phone number area code exactly matched to the last tax file address??
We have lifted up your concern with the username. A moderator will be reaching out to you shortly to help change it.
As for the IRS situation, have you checked your Caller ID to ensure it's set up for your full legal name? This can help the verification process. Also, do you have any blocks set up on your account (Block Premium SMS)? Lastly, how many attempts have you made so far with the IRS verification?

I've found a workaround with the requestor accepting something other than my IRS files, so I may not need to keep troubleshooting this. But clearly I'm not the only person who has encountered this problem.
(Thanks for fixing the username issue)
ARGH you didn't fix my username issue after all.. Please delete all these postings again. @vzw_customer_support
Hello I am having the same issue with the IRS website. I am getting a different error. It says "We were unable to verify that this phone number belongs to you with the phone provider. Please double check that your phone number was typed correctly or try a different number.". Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Making sure your number is correct for verification is important. With regard to the IRS site have you spoken with them regarding the number and what this error means on their end? There could be a number of things related to the message provided by the IRS. If your number is listed under another persons name as the account owner this may be what they are referring to. It would be best to contact the IRS to find out what the issue is when trying to verify your number through there online system. Does this make sense? JasperM_VZW
I have the same issue too.. and now I cannot even get any mail verification as they're not doing that due to the virus. Your staff couldn't help me either, kept telling me to talk with the respective company. Don't think it's that easy to get in touch with IRS especially these days... very frustrating. And not the first time I have this issue, had the same problem with Vanguard a couple months ago, just their technical guys found a way to get around it.
Has anyone figure out how to work around this issue? Since the IRS is not mailing out information - I'm really stuck. I actually called Experian who is the third party that acts as part of the verification process - they had added my phone number to their system and even that has done nothing. I am on post-pay account and of course my number and name are what they should be.
Seem like calling VZW support will be a waste of time .
I have the same problem and it's INFURIATING. Have been trying since March and it says the same thing: that the IRS cannot verify with my phone provider that my phone number belongs to me. Verizon rep on the phone said my caller ID matches my name.
I have the same problem. I have been trying this for 4 weeks, and made calls to IRS , Verizon, even experian, no solution at all. They all say not their issue and let me check the other side. So frustrating. Anybody from Verizon support can help me?
Helllo Sunland2100,
I definitely understand how important this is, and I'm right here to help in any way I can. Tell me, do you have Prepaid or Postpaid service? What appears on the Caller ID of a person you call? Can you receive messages from other companies with no problem? Please share these additional details for me, thank you.

I have postpaid plan. My caller id is showing my legal name when I call others. I have no problem receiving text message. Seems everything is working but it just can’t pass the IRS verification. Thank you.
Sunland2100, I am sorry to hear you are experiencing issues. I know how important this is to you. I am here to help in any way possible. What happens when you try to get through the verification?

Yes.It says "This number does not appear to be registered in your name"
Kayvanniknam, We understand how frustrating this can be. What type of account do you have with us? Postpaid or prepaid?

I have a prepaid account. I have had a Verizon mobile phone for over a decade. The account is in my name (although other people in my family are also included in it). The phone number has never changed. The Verizon "share name ID" is my name, exactly as it appears on my Verizon billing and my IRS tax return. The IRS has an "id verify" website that takes me through the steps of verifying I am who I say I am, then prompts for a text message to my cell phone to confirm. I enter my cell phone but it won't send the text message because the IRS states that it cannot associate my name with this Verizon cell phone number. So instead I need to wait 5-10 business days for a USPS letter with an activation code. Of course with the delays in USPS lately, it could be longer. Is all this because I have a prepaid account?
Hello -
I am NOT ON A PREPAID ACCOUNT but the IRS Still Cannot Verify my Verizon Telephone Number DOES ANYBODY KNOW WHY??
Thanks for confirming your mobile number is not a prepaid number, dakini_3. Are you trying to register an account with their website?

@vzw_customer_support , @joeym_vzw Can't this multi-user issue be escalated to technical support with a trouble ticket and have them work with the IRS website developers to identify what the problem is and help fix it?
