Droid Battery Not Charging With VZW Car Charger Attached

Well the subject says it all. We were using the Google Navigation on the Droid extensively yesterday and with the Verizon car charger attached the battery drained completely and rebooted itself. The charger icon was indicated during the charge so at least it appeared that the phone was in the charge cycle while navigating.

Bad charger? Phone messed up? Battery going bye bye? Would love to hear if anybody else is having these problems.

Have you tried using the car charger since this happened the first time?

See if there is a fuse in the end of that charger where it goes into the 12V accessory charger (I hate to call it a cigarette lighter). The tip will screw off to reveal a fuse if this is the case.Some chargers have this, some don't. I'm not near my Verizon-branded car charger to look and see at the moment.

Also., the fuse to the (ughh) cigarette lighter might have blown.

Having said all of this, I'd charge the battery at home, then pull it out of the phone, re-install it, and power up the phone. I don't put a lot of faith in the phone's onboard battery charge indicator (although it's all we have and I think the Droid's is better than most so far). You might have just experienced a one-time hiccupp with the phone.

The Droid overheats and stops charging while in the car dock in the direct sunlight. Move it to a shaded location and it will work fine.

Okay, my Verizon-branded charger doesn't have a fuse in it as I thought it might.

Jim's on the right track with this. I discovered this issue yesterday while driving home from work. I have a window suction-type phone holder that has the phone sitting on top of the dash and in direct sunlight. While mine didn't quit or stop charging, I went to dial a number and I was shocked, shocked, I say, to realize how hot the thing had gotten as it sat in the sun. I immediately removed the phone from the holder.

Next week, I plan to get a holder that mounts on the dash beside the radio and not in the sunlight..

This has to be the OP's problem.

I noticed that if I put the droid into the car cradle when it is not fully charged, it seems to charge until it is 100% and then stops charging. Using Navigator and Music it then discharges completely in about 4 hours, even when still connected to power. It may be heat, I will try that but I did note that after powering off and then on before it had completely discharged it started to charge again. Anyone else got a solution, this basically makes the GPS (NAvigator) unusable on long trips (over 4 hours)

After receiving my droid x today...I had same issue only mine was while charging with my usb to PC. but its the same thing. 12v to usb. What I think is that the drain from the droid's and also android batteryv hubgry OS...seems that maybe its an issue of how much power output vrs charging input these phones have. Its no mystery these phones have ALLOT of power hungry issues. so to me seems that one needs to either charge with AC or leave phone untouched while chaRGing from PC or DC(car).
