Apple Watch Series 6

I added my new Apple Watch model 6 to the plan as a shared device with my iPhone, for $10 monthly fee plus the setup charge. I can call and text using the watch—but only when my iPhone is nearby. I want to make calls and texts when away from the iPhone. But when I try to do so, the attempts fail and I receive a notification that the watch is not identified to a cellular plan. (I have a 5Gig monthly plan for the iPhone, which I understood could be used, that is to say, shared, with my iPhone.). What do I have to do to get the ability to use my Apple Watch away from the iPhone? The help desk person who set me up on this tonight said it was ready to go, but when I tested it away from the iPhone it fails.

I have two Apple Watch 6s. I've learned on mine that I need to go into the settings on the watch and turn wifi off and turn cellular on. I also turn bluetooth off on my phone because if I get the watch in range it wants to connect back to the phone. When on cellular, I also use the watch face that has the four dots in the middle of the clock. That makes it easy to verify a cellular signal at a glance, but that's just my preference. Also, remember to charge it first if possible as I realized that it uses a lot of battery when on cellular.

I just read your post again about getting the justification. Sorry if I misunderstood.

Go to the watch app on your phone, go to "cellular" and see if Verizon is listed. If not, they don't have you set up correctly.

We know how important it is for your Apple Watch to be set up the way you need it If you have NumberShare active for the Apple Watch then you should certainly be able to use the watch away from your phone. In the Apple Watch app does it show that the watch is activated.

So if I were to order an Apple Watch (I have an existing iPhone line) would it be an upgrade or a new line?

Great question, MWigington. If you wish to order a brand new watch and for it to have it's own ability to call and message away from your iPhone, it would be a new line activation. ~Pamela
