Adding a new notification sound

I have a Galaxy A01 phone, and I'd like to add a new notification sound that I downloaded to the list. Alas, I can't paste it into the right folder. I know that I can always hook my phone up to my Linux computer and use root access to do it, but I'd like to know how it can be done using only the phone itself. Is there a way?

Is there not user accessible folders called "ringtones", "notifications, and" alarms" in the internal memory space? You don't need root access to modify those folders.

Yes, but even when I have the file I want copied, I can't paste it into that folder because paste is grayed out. If it weren't, I wouldn't need to ask here, would I?

Instead of paste try move to ger it in that folder. Mary

To clarify, what are trying to add as a sound notification? If we have a better idea of exactly what you're trying to accomplish, we may know a way to help you do it.*Melissa

I downloaded a short audio file (an mp3) and want to add it to the list of files that can be selected as my Notification sound. Then, I want to select it instead of the default sound.
