Static vs DHCP IP ranges on Actiontec Router

Can anyone explain how to assign different IP ranges for DHCP & static IP's on the LAN side of the Actiontec router?

They can be in the same subnet, but I'd also like to kow how to assign different subnets.

I understand the what & why, but trying to figure out the how on this interface is about to make my head explode.

First the Verizon STB's use a DHCP Range from 100 to 150, so I would not change anything with it unless you need to.

To Change the DHCP Range:

Logon to Actiontec

Select Advanced

Select IP Address Distribution

Select Edit on the line with the DHCP Server

Starting address needs to be 100 or lower

Ending address needs to be 150 or higher.

Just allow enough addresses outside of the 100 to 150 range to meet your needs.

The screen shows the addresses for:

IP Address Distribution According to DHCP Option 60 (Vendor Class Identifier)

which is what the STBs use.

You can lock down the STBs address as follows:

Logon to Actiontec

Select Advanced

Select IP Address Distribution

Select Connection List

Select IP-STB

Edit

Check Off Static Lease Type

A similiar process could be used with any of your lan devices.

I'm not certian how you would define and/or use multiple subnets on the router.

What would you be trying to accomplish with multile subnets ?

The router does support VLANs which may meet your needs.

For my setup I revised my DHCP Range from 100 to 151 as I only need a DHCP Address for 1 device. I manually assign my other devices static addresses that are outside of the DHCP Range. I also locked down my Verizon STBs to prevent my Remote DVR Functionality from dropping everytime they changed addresses.
