Audio automatically muting...

I have a 19" SAMSUNG LCD tv and a middle tier Fios SD receiver($5.99/mo model). When i watch on this tv, the volume will automatically lower until it becomes mute. I called Samsung and they said that it's most likely a receiver issue. When i had FIOS installed, I originally had the $3.99/mo box, but swapped it out for the middle tier box because the basic box does not offer a menu guide. Anyway, the issue of the audio decreasing DID NOT occur when i had the basic box for a month or so, so i'm thinking that i might have picked up a bad box. Anyone experience similar problems?????? HELP

I would say check that the volume is set to fixed, instead of variable. It's in the settings menu under Menu->Settings->Audio->Volume Control. Most likely though, you have a bad box if it's just doing it on its own.
