You can't with the Motorola DVR. For the forseeable future, the ability to download a recording from a HD DVR is a TiVo exclusive feature.
The most you can do with the FiOS' Motorola DVR is connect it via Firewire to your computer, press play on the DVR and then press record in the DVHSCap program on your PC. This will allow you to record local HD content as it is played, but it will not allow you to record from cable channels.
If you are just looking to increase your storage capacity, Verizon hopes to support eSATA drive expansion on its QIP7216 DVR before the end of the year. Recordings would be split across the internal and external drive.
